U.S. Embassy in Ethiopia: Enhancing the Role of Religious Leaders and Institutions in Attaining the 90-90-90 Fast Track Targets

The U.S. Embassy Addis Ababa/ Community Grants Office(CGO) has announced an open competition for organizations to submit applications for programs that contribute to PEPFAR Ethiopia’s 90-90-90 targets by revitalizing the role of religious institutions and actors to tackle stigma and treatment adherence issues.

The proposed interventions are expected to contribute to the creation of an enabling and supportive social environment for people to disclose their HIV status, initiate HIV treatment early and stay on treatment in conjunction with their search for healing through religious mechanisms.

Funding Information

• Award amounts: Awards may range from a minimum of $5000 to a maximum of $24,999
• Anticipated program start date: 1 June, 2018

Audience

• Religious leaders across the faith spectrum
• Religious media users
• Congregations from churches and mosques in PEPFAR intervention areas
• People living with HIV/AIDS
• Communities impacted by HIV including orphans and vulnerable children, adolescent girls and young women, men and boys, and marginalized populations

Eligibility Criteria

• Eligible Applicants
  • The following organizations are eligible to apply:
    • Inter-Faith and Faith-based Organizations
    • Not-for-profit organizations, including civil society/non-governmental organization,
    • Associations of people living with HIV
    • Non-profit entities with media messaging experience
• Other Eligibility Requirements
  • It is advantageous for prospective applicants to:
    • Have prior experience implementing HIV/AIDS project
    • Demonstrate experience working with mass media and social media
    • Have prior experience working with religious leaders and institutions
    • Have the capacity to implement a project utilizing a well-organized financial management system
    • Any awardee must be a local group

Applicants must not be current PEPFAR fund recipients, and should not duplicate already-existing PEPFAR-supported services in their geographic area.
