The City of Westminster is inviting applications for the Culture and Community Grants programme to welcome projects that engage both local residents and visitors to Westminster.
The Grant will enable local creatives and cultural organisations to draw on their expertise to deliver wellbeing and participatory activities in partnership with residents. Target beneficiaries include those facing financial access barriers, schoolchildren, 16 to 25 year olds, over 65s, global majority ethnic groups, and those experiencing disabilities and social isolation.
Funding Information
- Grants between £1,000 and £10,000 of funding towards projects that meet the assessment criteria. Those who are successful will receive 90% upfront and 10% upon receipt of a satisfactory final monitoring report.
- They will support:
- Project-related activities
- Staff costs for administration, management, planning and delivery of the project
- Insurance and DBS certificate costs
- Venue hire
- Licensing, event notices and road closure costs
- Costs to make the activity more accessible to participants
Eligibility Criteria
- They encourage applications from cultural organisations or those delivering cultural activities for residents of, or visitors to, the City of Westminster. This could include community organisations, faith venues, schools, Business Improvement Districts, agencies, artists, curators and performers.
- Groups, people and organisations eligible to apply:
- Constituted community group
- Individual or group of individuals, who are over 18-years old – having a reference from a registered organisation, or being in partnership with one, is preferred and may strengthen your application but is not a requirement
- Registered, exempt or excepted charity
- Charitable incorporated organisation (CIO)
- CIC limited by guarantee
- Charitable company (limited by guarantee)
- Registered charitable industrial and provident society, or charitable cooperative
- Faith groups
- Registered community amateur sports clubs
- Constituted but unincorporated club or association
- Constituted tenants and residents associations
- Trusts
- Schools
Assessment Criteria
- When assessing applications, will look to fund projects who:
- Encourage the co-creation of free and accessible events with resident groups and community champions, for those experiencing social, economic or wellbeing deprivation
- Develop outreach arts activities in community settings including social housing estates, faith venues, schools, hospitals and care homes
- Enable programmes that help young people find their voice
- Share stories of and told by diverse communities
- Improve access to the arts for those experiencing disabilities
- Support creative enterprise and skills opportunities
- Enable active participation in culture to improve physical and mental health
- Employ creativity to enliven high streets and public spaces
- Promote thier neighbourhoods, business districts and heritage settings as cultural hubs
Ineligible
- They cannot support:
- Projects that don’t align with any criteria
- Projects that take place outside of Westminster
- Staff travel expenses and parking costs
- Previously funded equipment, that has not deteriorated beyond use
- Purchase of equipment, unless specifically used and retained by the beneficiaries
- Activities that promote discriminatory or extremist views
- Regular core running costs, loan repayments or VAT
- Payments to suppliers on behalf of the grantee
- ‘Business as usual’ activities, such as normal maintenance or repairs, or projects that already have funding to continue
