The Community Foundation for Northern Ireland is now accepting applications for the RTÉ Toy Show Appeal Community Grants Fund to raise funds for Irish children’s charities through the televised Late Late Toy Show.
The Toy Show Fund mission is inspired by children, they work to bring the magic of the Toy Show to every child in Ireland. By funding essential support, health, wellbeing, play and creativity they aim to change children’s lives for good.
Thematic Pillars and Funding Information
Children and family focussed charities working at local, regional and national level can apply for a grant under one of the following thematic pillars:

Addressing Essential Needs: Applications can be for new projects, to upscale and develop ongoing programmes, or the small-scale development of spaces. Undr the Addressing Essential Needs Strand, grants of £5,000 to £20,000 are available to eligible organisations that can demonstrate the impact of their work at local and community level. Grants within this Strand of funding will be made to ensure that vulnerable children are safe, warm and fed; and they are properly supported in addressing educational needs. This Strand aims to improve living conditions and outcomes of children at risk by providing holistic and practical support, and by improving their educational outcomes. The objectives of this Strand are:
- An increased number of children having their essential needs met.
- Increased safety, nutrition and family wellbeing for at risk children.
- Increased essential skills and educational participation for children experiencing educational disadvantage.
- Children supported in communities across all of Ireland. There will be particular focus on applications from under-served and rural communities.

Improving Wellbeing: Applications can be for new projects, to upscale and develop ongoing programmes, or the small-scale development of spaces. Under the Improving Wellbeing Strand, grants of £5,000 to £20,000 are available to eligible organisations that can demonstrate the impact of their work at local and community level. Ill health is difficult at any point in life, but it can have significant and long-term impacts in childhood in terms of educational outcomes and emotional wellbeing. Covid has created additional challenges in terms of mental health and social isolation. This Strand aims to improve the mental health and resilience of children and to increase quality of life for children with disabilities and serious health conditions. The objectives of this Strand are:
- An increased number of children in Ireland have access to physical and mental health services.
- Increased physical and emotional wellbeing for children with disabilities (physical and intellectual) and life-limiting / serious illnesses.
- Increased emotional wellbeing for children experiencing mental health challenges.
- Children supported in communities across all of Ireland. There will be particular focus on applications from under-served and rural communities.

Creativity and Play: Applications can be for new projects, to upscale and develop ongoing programmes, or the small-scale development of spaces. Under the Creativity and Play Strand, grants of £5,000 to £20,000 are available to eligible organisations that can demonstrate the impact of their work at local and community level. Creativity and play are essential to supporting children’s development of cognitive and social behaviours. This Strand aims to enhance personal and emotional development, resilience and wellness for disadvantaged children through creative programmes and activities. The objectives of this Strand are:
- An increased number of marginalised/vulnerable children access creative and play activities.
- Increased self-belief and empowerment of children from disadvantaged or minority backgrounds through access to art, play and recreation.
- Children supported in communities across all of Ireland. There will be particular focus on applications from under-served and rural communities.
Eligibility Criteria

Eligible organisations must:
- Be a child or family focused charity working at community/ local level
- Be registered with the Charity Commission for NI
- Have an annual income of less than £250,000
- Have up to date and sufficient governing documents, annual accounts and child safeguarding policies

Eligible projects must:
- Support disadvantaged or vulnerable children from 0-18 years old. This includes:
- Socially and economically disadvantaged children
- Children with disabilities
- Children with severe long-term illnesses
- Children who have suffered trauma or grief
- Children who are suffering with behavioural or psychological difficulties
- Children who are facing discrimination
- Be a new programme or an ongoing programme that will be developed or upscaled with the funding
- Start in June 2022 and run for 12 months
