USAID-Pretoria: Community-Based Violence Prevention and Linkages to Response in South Africa

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is seeking applications for cooperative agreements from qualified organizations to fund a program entitled “Community-Based Violence Prevention and Linkages to Response in South Africa”.

Activities

  • Comprehensive training in and operationalization of Child Safeguarding policies, procedures and protocols among community caregivers/case managers conducting routine home visits;
  • Community led approaches to prevent and respond to child abuse;
  • Child protection case management via skills-building for case managers (e.g. Child and Youth Care Workers, Social Auxiliary Workers, etc.), which includes assessments of family violence risks, identification of cases of physical, sexual, or emotional abuse or neglect, referrals for specialized services and support including medical, legal, and social and case resolution in coordination and collaboration with Social Workers and other stakeholders;
  • Survivor advocate training for case managers;
  • Positive parenting knowledge and skills building with a focus on violence prevention and the use of positive discipline using evidence-based curricula (e.g. Let’s Talk ), as well as reinforcement of positive practices via case management/routine home visits;
  • Structured/multi-session, group-based GBV prevention interventions using evidence-based curricula (e.g. Stepping Stones) to scale up community level GBV prevention;
  • Safe schools for violence prevention and school-based positive parenting skills-building;
  • Protocols linking clinical and community-based social services for children and adolescents who have experienced sexual violence;
  • Linkages to comprehensive care centers (e.g., TCC) for survivors of sexual violence;
  • Specialized psychological support, including psychological assessment and therapeutic counseling for children and adolescents who have experienced sexual violence with a focus on including support for family-centered therapy;
  • Increased access to comprehensive health care including family planning counseling and contraceptive mix, emergency contraception, post-exposure HIV prophylaxis (PEP) and tracking of PEP adherence; Develop PEP adherence community systems;
  • Distribution of information about available sexual violence services for families and communities; and
  • Innovative sustainable emergency funds to improve survivor’s access to sexual violence services , engaging relevant community, civil society, and private sector stakeholders to increase investments and community support for survivors of violence.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Qualified applicants may be U.S. or non-U.S. Non-governmental organizations (NGOs), private voluntary organizations (PVOs), for-profit companies willing to forego profit, and Public International Organizations.
  • Faith-based and community organizations that fit the criteria above are also eligible to apply. In support of the Agency’s interest in fostering a larger assistance base and expanding the number and sustainability of development partners, USAID encourages applications from potential new implementing partners that have not received financial assistance from USAID.
  • Applicants must have established financial management, monitoring and evaluation processes, internal control systems, and policies and procedures that comply with established U.S. Government standards, laws, and regulations.
  • The successful applicant(s) may be subject to a responsibility determination assessment (Pre-award Survey) by the Agreement Officer (AO).
