USAID-Tbilisi seeking Applications for “Achieving Student Centered Education for a New Tomorrow”

Teach for Romania Fellowship

Deadline: 12 August 2019

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) mission in Georgia is seeking applications for a Cooperative Agreement from qualified entities to implement the Achieving Student Centered Education for a New Tomorrow (ASCENT).

The purpose of the Achieving Student Centered Education for a New Tomorrow (ASCENT) program is for the education system to implement sustainable student-centered reform in primary grades.  The reform will focus on the subject areas of literacy, numeracy, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.  At the same time, the program will promote deep-rooted systemic change, leaving behind a legacy of educational institutions with both the ability to independently make evidence-based decisions and the know-how to implement them in an inclusive, logical, and sustainable way.  The program will ensure the participation of girls, ethnic minorities, and children with disabilities.

Capitalizing on the Georgian government’s unprecedented commitment to modernize the country’s educational system, the activity will be implemented in close coordination with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports (MoESCS), and looks specifically to actualize its support for student-centered instruction.  The activity will also closely coordinate with donors such as the World Bank, which is planning to provide significant budget support and technical assistance for student-centered learning.  (The World Bank intends to focus on introducing digital technology in the learning process and improving school management practices, activities that are complementary but distinct from ASCENT.)
