Nigeria: Deji Alli Young Talent Award 2023

Applications are now open for the 2023 Deji Alli ARM Young Talent Award (DAAYTA).

The Deji Alli ARM Young Talent Award is an ARM initiative in partnership with TechnoVision’s TVC Labs that aims at providing young Nigerians with an opportunity to develop innovative start-up ventures that add economic value to Nigeria.

The DAAYTA 2023 initiative is in line with ARM’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) with the aim of building a generation of change leaders, working together to build a better future. It seeks to support business ideas that intentionally create a positive societal impact while generating a financial return.

Focus Areas
Prize Details
  • The winner of DAAYTA 2023 Programme will receive Funding of N12,000,000 (twelve million naira) over a one (1) year period for the following purposes:
    • contribution to working capital.
    • Participation in an entrepreneurial education programme at the Pan Atlantic University’s Enterprise Development Centre in Lagos, Nigeria
    • receive a 5-month acceleration support services for the development of their venture by TVC Labs.
  • The second stage of the programme will require thirty (30) shortlisted applicants to submit a POEM Framework business plan, a Marketing/pitching video, detailed profiles of their Board (Directors & Advisers), and Team members, sharing their Education, Careers, Key Accomplishments and LinkedIn profiles.
Eligibility Criteria
  • To be eligible for the award, the applicant must:
    • be a citizen of Nigeria
    • be between 18 and 35 years of age
    • submit their application which must be their original work
    • have an MVP (minimum viable product) i.e. you have customers
    • be able to fund his/her/team travel expenses and other associated costs if required
    • be available (with co-founders/team where they exist) for the 2-day Pitch Workshop and Final Pitch Event scheduled for April 2023
    • understand the business of ARM, what they stand for; and
    • be ready to represent ARM as an Ambassador
  • The Programme Winner shall:
    • partake in an incubation period to develop the winning MVP into a workable one, with the duration of such incubation period dependent on the winning MVP and same to be communicated to the Programme Winner at commencement;
    • comply with the rules and regulation of the PAU-EDC incubator as well as a designated mentoring institution to be decided by ARM;
    • notify ARM at any time he/she is absent from the Management Programme; and
    • not discontinue or otherwise abandon the Management Programme, or transfer to any other institution without the prior written consent of ARM.

Nigeria: FMN Prize for Innovation (Season 2)

The Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc (FMN) has launched Season 2 of the Prize for Innovation to encourage new ideas in food production, innovation, and engineering and how these can impact and enable a sustainable food system in Nigeria.

Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc, a leading food and agro-allied group in Africa, launched the FMN Prize for Innovation to encourage new ideas and innovations in the food and agro-allied sector in Nigeria and across the continent and how these can impact and enable a sustainable food system in Nigeria. The group strongly believes that an innovation-driven food system is achievable in Nigeria and that it can contribute to the systematic development of the food value chain and the attainment of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

That is why the FMN Prize for Innovation seeks to nurture and support novel ways of thinking, as well as inventive ideas to resolve existing problems in the food and agro-allied sector. Every year, the prize will focus on important aspects of the food value chain that they believe are critical to the transformation and sustainable development of the food systems in the country. The focus for this year’s Prize is on developing local content and capacity in Nigeria.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Category 1
    • Micro, Small, and Medium Scale Enterprises (MSMEs) that are registered in Nigeria and operate in the agro-processing and food production space.
    • Your big idea and innovative solution should address a shift from dependence on raw materials import to prioritize local content usage in Nigeria’s food and agro-allied sector.
    • Your idea should have a solid proof-of-concept, a social or commercial purpose, and a clear roadmap to scale.
  • Category 2
    • Nigerian Students (Undergraduate and postgraduate level)
    • Your big idea and innovative solution must address a shift from dependence on raw materials import to prioritize local content usage in Nigeria’s food and agro-allied sector.
    • Your idea has a solid proof-of-concept and a social or commercial purpose.

Call for Applications iHatch 3rd Cohort in Nigeria

The Office for Nigerian Digital Innovation (ONDI) in partnership with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is said to launch iHatch, a startup incubation programme.

The incubation program will provide an excellent opportunity for startups who have innovative business plans with a prototype service/product.
iHatch is a 5-month free intensive incubation program designed to help Nigerian entrepreneurs refine their business ideas through a series of coaching, lectures, and boot camps, to generate viable and scalable business models.  The incubation programme will focus on the youths, innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology.
Participating startups will receive free offline and online interactive training from experienced coaches and mentors from all over the world. Other benefits includes free co-working space and investment opportunities for the duration of the program.

Nigeria Health Watch has announced the third edition of the #PreventEpidemicsNaija Journalism Awards ceremony to celebrate evidence-based and accurate reporting of epidemic preparedness in Nigeria is now open.

The #PreventEpidemicsNaija Journalism Award aims to recognize and celebrate journalists who have had an impact by producing evidence-based and accurate reporting of epidemic preparedness in Nigeria.

The #PreventEpidemicsNaija Journalism Awards honours journalists who have reported on all dimensions of epidemic preparedness in Nigeria in digital/print, audio and video formats.

The media significantly affects how the public responds to health issues. The need to go beyond reporting on an outbreak’s response to discussing what needs to be done to prepare for the future outbreak.

Criteria for Nomination
  • The nominated article, programme or production should capture the following themes and must have been published or aired between the period of January 1, 2022, to November 30, 2022:
    • Communicate the many dimensions of epidemic preparedness in Nigeria
    • Inform on the current state of epidemic preparedness in Nigeria, with a special focus on funding
    • Highlight and scrutinize budgeting and funding for epidemic preparedness in Nigeria
    • Improve community awareness on infectious diseases, empower citizens to demand more funding for epidemic preparedness and hold power to account.
Eligibility Criteria
  • Print News:
    • Length of submission: Written articles of minimum of 650 words in length published in print format/platform
  • Online News
    • Length of Submission: Written articles of minimum of 650 words, videos of a minimum of 1 minute 30 seconds in length published on online media platform
    • Radio: Length of submission: Radio show – 5 minutes or longer.
    • Television: Length of submission: TV show/Media Report – 3 minutes or longer.

U.S. Mission to Nigeria: Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation

The U.S. Mission to Nigeria announces an open competition for eligible organizations seeking project funding through the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP).

AFCP Program Objectives: 

  • The Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) Grants Program was established in 2001 at the request of the Congress, reflected in the Conference Report on the Departments of Commerce, Justice, and State, the Judiciary, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2001 (P. L. 106-553). AFCP was launched to preserve cultural heritage and to demonstrate U.S. respect for other cultures.
  • The aim is to preserve of major ancient archaeological sites, historic buildings and monuments, and major museum collections that have an historical or cultural significance to the cultural heritage of Nigeria.

Funding Information

  • Length of performance period: up to sixty (60) months
  • Awards Amounts: Awards may range from a minimum of $10,000 to maximum of $500,000.

Project Activities

  • Appropriate project activities may include:
    • Anastylosis (reassembling a site from its original parts)
    • Conservation (addressing damage or deterioration to an object or site)
    • Consolidation (connecting or reconnecting elements of an object or site)
    • Documentation (recording in analog or digital format the condition and salient features of an object, site, or tradition)
    • Inventory (listing of objects, sites, or traditions by location, feature, age, or other unifying characteristic or state)
    • Preventive Conservation (addressing conditions that threaten or damage a site, object, collection, or tradition)
    • Restoration (replacing missing elements to recreate the original appearance of an object or site, usually appropriate only with fine arts, decorative arts, and historic buildings)
    • Stabilization (reducing the physical disturbance of an object or site)

Eligibility Criteria

  • The U.S Mission to Nigeria defines eligible project applicants as reputable and accountable non-commercial entities that are able to demonstrate they have the requisite capacity to manage projects to preserve cultural heritage.
  • These may include nongovernmental organizations, museums, educational institutions, ministries of culture, or similar institutions and organizations, including U.S.-based educational institutions and organizations subject to Section 501(c)(3) of the tax code.
  • The AFCP will not award grants to individuals, commercial entities, or past award recipients that have not fulfilled the objectives or reporting requirements of previous awards.
