Deadline: 25 November 2025
The World Food Programme is preparing to expand its food security and nutrition support in the Wadi Fira region of Chad in 2026.
The region continues to face recurring crises that affect livelihoods, access to food and nutrition, and overall community resilience. In response to these challenges, WFP will introduce a vulnerability-based assistance model that adjusts the type and frequency of support based on households’ specific needs.
This approach will help distinguish between refugees, returnees and local host communities, enabling more precise identification of households considered “extremely vulnerable” or “very vulnerable.” Assistance packages will be adapted accordingly to ensure that the most at-risk families receive adequate and timely support. The initiative is part of a broader effort covering Wadi Fira, Ennedi East, Ouaddai and Sila, where humanitarian needs remain high.
Under the programme, extremely vulnerable households will receive monthly unconditional food assistance either through food distributions or cash transfers. Households classified as very vulnerable will receive quarterly social transfers to help maintain access to essential food items and stabilize consumption levels. Children between six and twenty-three months of age, as well as pregnant and breastfeeding women, will receive targeted nutritional support to prevent and treat malnutrition. This is complemented by awareness activities to improve feeding practices, hygiene and caregiving knowledge among mothers and households.
The initiative also integrates livelihood and self-reliance activities to support long-term recovery. These efforts are aimed at helping households strengthen their resilience to future shocks and improve their economic stability. Through these combined interventions, WFP seeks to enhance food security, improve nutrition outcomes and reduce vulnerability among crisis-affected communities in the Wadi Fira region.
