The World Photography Organisation in partnership with Sony is seeking nominations for its Sony World Photography Awards that seek to bring all the photographers at one of the world’s leading photography competitions. The aim of these awards is to showcase the best photography in the world from the past year.
Free to enter and open to all photographers, the awards’ are an authoritative voice in the photographic industry, with the power to shape the careers of its winning, shortlisted and commended photographers.
Competitions
The Awards have four competitions
Note: Applicants may only enter one of the below competitions. Once they have successfully submitted their images into one of the below, they will not be able to enter the other competitions.
- Professional – 10 categories, judged on a body of work: Each year the Professional competition of the Sony World Photography Awards draws a huge variety of inspiring, engaging and emotional photography from around the world.
- Photographer of the Year – $25,000 (USD) / Sony digital imaging equipment / Included in exhibition at Somerset House, London
- Category winners – Flights & accommodation to awards ceremony in London / Sony digital imaging equipment / Publication in winners’ book / Included in exhibition at Somerset House, London
- Finalists – Awards ceremony tickets / Publication in winners’ book / Included in exhibition at Somerset House, London
- Shortlist – Digital exhibition at Somerset House, London
- Open – 10 categories, rewarding the best single images: Photographers of all ages, backgrounds and experience levels are invited to enter the Open competition of the world’s biggest photography competition.
- National Awards – Entries submitted to the Open competition are automatically entered into the National Awards based on nationality
- Open Competition winner – $5,000 (USD) / Sony digital imaging equipment / Flights and accommodation to the awards ceremony in London / Included in exhibition at Somerset House, London
- Category winners – Sony digital imaging equipment / Publication in winners’ book / Included in exhibition at Somerset House, London
- Shortlist – Digital exhibition at Somerset House, London / Publication in winners’ book
- Commended – Digital exhibition at Somerset House, London
- National Awards – Entries submitted to the Open competition are automatically entered into the National Awards based on nationality
- Youth – for all photographers aged 12-19, a single image responding to one brief: A passion for photography often starts at a young age. The Youth competition, for all photographers aged 12-19, recognises this next generation of talented young photographers.
- Youth competition winner – Flights and accommodation to awards in London / Sony digital imaging equipment / Included in exhibition at Somerset House, London
- Shortlist – Digital exhibition at Somerset House, London / Publication in winners’ book
- Student Focus – for those studying photography: The Student Focus competition is one of the world’s leading programs for photography students. Anyone undertaking a full-time photography course can take part.
Funding Information
A total prize fund of $30,000 (USD) plus the latest Sony digital imaging equipment is shared between winning photographers.
