Applicants are invited for Cinema and Human Rights Festival that is organized by volunteers of Amnesty International Paris, with the support of Amnesty International France. It aims to promote films on human rights, including organizing a competition of short films on the theme.
Founded in 1961, Amnesty International is a global and independent movement of 3 million people who work for the respect, protection and promotion of all rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948. Amnesty International received the Nobel peace Prize in 1977. Amnesty International France (AIF) was established in 1971. Its funding is based on public donations (more than 240,000 donors), sales support products and membership fees (over 18,000). AIF is approved by the Committee of the Charter of the gift in trust.
Focus Themes
The festival seeks to focus on films about human rights. The films may for example be within the non-exhaustive list of the following themes:
- Right to decent housing
- Children’s rights
- Womens rights
- Human dignity
- discrimination
- Companies, human rights and poverty
- social justice, international rights
- Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity
- Refugees and migrants
Prize Categories
- The Grand Prix for Human Rights is awarded by an independent jury of personalities from the world of cinema and specialists in human rights.
- The Special Prize for Human Rights is awarded by an independent jury of personalities from the world of cinema and specialists in human rights.
- The Audience Award is awarded by the audience at the screening of short films.
- The Jury of Bloggers Prize is awarded by specialist bloggers on cinema.
Selection Criteria
- Registration for the festival is free. Each director may propose several films, but a registration form must be completed for each film submitted.
- Films rejected the previous edition of the festival cannot be resubmitted.
- The festival accepts all types of films (fiction, documentary, experimental, animation, video …) made after 1 January 2012. The films must not exceed 20 minutes, including credits. The films are sent preferably by Internet, but the DVD (European PAL format, or standard video file burned to DVD) are also accepted.
- The films will be in French or subtitled in French. Otherwise, the films subtitled in English are also tolerated.
