The International Organization for Migration is accepting proposals for its project to conduct an awareness raising campaign “Move the middle” to promote social inclusion of Afghan populations in Kazakhstan.
The campaign will seek to ensure that Afghan migrants, in particular vulnerable Afghan nationals such as women, children, older people, and informal workers, have improved awareness of available services, their value and how to access them.
Key Areas
- The project focuses on two kea areas:
- Strengthening governance: Working with national and local authorities to strengthen migration systems and institutional capacity in addressing migration crises and responding to the most urgent humanitarian and protection needs;
- Increasing access to services: Strengthening the technical capacities of local service providers and partners, along with providing multi-sectorial direct assistance, including specific support to persons in situations of vulnerability, particularly women and girls.’
Direction and Area of Expertise
- Experience in awareness raising activities focusing on social integration, inclusion and cohesion of migrants, with a focus on access to services and job in Kazakhstan.
- Conduct community-level awareness campaign ‘Move the Middle” to tackle xenophobia and racism, and promote social inclusion of Afghan populations in Almaty and Shymkent/ Turkestan region.
Funding Information
- Two proposals with a budget not exceeding 15,000 (fifteen thousand) Canadian Dollars each will be supported.
Expected Outcome
- Implementing Partner (Non- Governmental organization) in cooperation with relevant Ministries, local authorities, the Human Rights Commissioner, CSOs, Afghan community leaders and media will conduct a community-level awareness campaign ‘Move the Middle” to tackle xenophobia and racism, and promote social inclusion of Afghan populations.
Geographic Scope
- The project focuses on a community of Afghan citizens (especially women) in the city of Almaty and Shymkent /Turkestan region of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The application must contain sufficient justification as to why a particular locality and community was chosen.
Eligible Activities
- NGO Partner undertakes to carry out the following project activities:
- Spread information about the project in mass media and social networks, as well as among potential stakeholders.
- Collaborate with project partners in Almaty, Shymkent/ Turkestan oblast, including local authorities, business communities, civil society, diaspora and migrant communities, media and establish cooperation in the implementation of project activities.
- Develop work plan and key messages focusses on empathy, common humanity, shared community values, and contributions of migrants.
- Identify Community Activities (workshops, sessions in schools, museum, hospitals, local entitties, migrant’s communities, etc.)
- Launch Social media campaign: Use real stories and facts to challenge misinformation. Hashtags like #MoveTheMiddle, #WithAfghans, #UnitedInDiversity.
- Raise awareness among Afghan migrant communites about their rights, responsibilities, and available support services at residing territory.
- Condcut a meeting with local authorties and recommend practices and policies to support migrant inclusion.
- 8. Conduct Monitoring and Evaluation activities using pre- and post-campaign surveys; feedback forms at events; track media reach
- Develop final Impact report based on the success stories of economic empowerment of Afghan women and the community (photos, media articles, social media post), findings and lessons learned to inform future campaigns.
