Entries open for Fifteen I Tatti Residential Year Fellowships

Apply for Immuno-Informatics Postdoctoral Fellowship

Deadline: 15-Oct-2025

The I Tatti Residential Year Fellowships provide scholars with an unparalleled opportunity to pursue post-doctoral research on the Italian Renaissance in a rich academic environment.

The project must represent advanced research in the Italian Renaissance, broadly defined historically as the period ranging from the 14th to the 17th centuries and geographically to include transnational dialogues between Italy and other cultures (e.g. Latin American, Mediterranean, African, Asian etc.). Subjects covered include art and architecture, history, literature, material culture, music and performance, philosophy, religion, and science. Scholars can also apply to work on the transmission and circulation of ideas, objects, and people during the Renaissance, into and beyond the Italian peninsula, or on the historiography of the Italian Renaissance, including the rebirth of interest in the Renaissance in later periods.

Each year, fifteen fellowships are offered for twelve months, granting scholars the time and resources necessary to pursue research in Florence. Fellows gain full access to the Biblioteca Berenson and its extensive collections, as well as Harvard Library’s vast range of online journals and electronic resources. The fellowship fosters a vibrant scholarly community, where seminars, workshops, conferences, lectures, and cultural events encourage dialogue and collaboration. Rather than presenting a traditional final paper, Fellows share their work-in-progress early in the year to receive valuable feedback.

The fellowship is open to scholars worldwide who hold a PhD, dottorato di ricerca, or equivalent degree awarded between January 1, 2015, and September 1, 2025. Candidates must demonstrate fluency in English or Italian, with comprehension of both languages. Applicants should show a solid background in Italian Renaissance studies and evidence of preliminary research. Projects may represent post-doctoral studies or significant reworkings of dissertations, with preference given to postdoctoral research. Special consideration may be given to candidates without regular access to resources in Italy.

One of the fifteen fellowships, supported by the Florence Gould Foundation, is specifically designated for scholars who focus on a Franco-Italian Renaissance topic, reside in France, or hold French citizenship. Applicants meeting these criteria should indicate their status in the application.

The fellowship runs from July 1 to June 30, with residential requirements beginning in September. Fellows must live in Florence, participate in lunches, and engage fully with the intellectual life of the institution. The award includes a $65,000 grant, relocation support, access to rent-free apartments at I Tatti or a housing subsidy, as well as weekday lunches. Fellows are required to dedicate themselves entirely to their research during the year, with limited allowances for short absences.

Applications must be submitted electronically in English or Italian by October 15, 2025. Two letters of recommendation are required, to be submitted online by October 20, 2025.
