Deadline: 17-Dec-2025
Applicants are now invited to submit applications for the CMT Research Foundation Grant Program to fund the most promising research for CMT that leads to the development of therapeutics for all types of CMT.
Typical awards will range from $100,000 to $200,000 per year, based on stage and scope of research. Exceptional proposals with higher budgets are also considered. For studies requiring additional support, co-funding from other funding agencies, companies or investors is encouraged. Please identify cost-sharing opportunities in the LOI.
One to three years with potential for follow-on funding. Proposals for projects longer than one year in duration should include clearly defined, event-based milestones that serve as decisions points for continuing the project as planned or revising the project to reflect data gathered in initial stages.
Funding is open to researchers and clinicians worldwide. Academic medical centers, universities, non-profit and for-profit research organizations are encouraged to apply. Biotechnology companies with an interest in CMT therapeutic development are especially encouraged to submit applications. Funding to for-profit organizations is provided when the project aligns with the mission of the CMT Research Foundation. Funding by the CMT Research Foundation requires the potential for a return on investment if resulting intellectual property becomes commercially profitable.
Before submitting a full proposal, applicants must first submit a Letter of Intent through the online portal. The Letter of Intent should be a one- to two-page PDF highlighting the specific aims of the project and the milestones expected after each stage. Applicants must identify any collaborations with companies or institutions that could advance findings or provide co-funding.
The foundation evaluates the project’s alignment with its mission and objectives, and early submission of the LOI is encouraged to allow sufficient time for feedback and proposal preparation. Invitations to submit a full proposal are generally issued within three weeks of LOI submission.
Full proposals must include a lay summary, scientific summary and rationale, specific aims, background, preliminary results, detailed experimental plan, references, Gantt chart of the proposed experimental plan, detailed budget with justification, other support (current and pending), and NIH biosketches for the research team. Feedback is typically provided within three to eight weeks after submission following review by the Scientific Advisory Board.
The foundation funds indirect costs up to 10 percent. Full proposals are accepted quarterly, with the next submission deadline on December 17, 2025.
