The Academic Development Grants strive to support and advance authentic Buddhist studies at the highest level of academic excellence.
Applications originated from universities and academic institutions. Programs to strengthen academic Buddhist study and research. Outreach programs to students on campus, the community, and the public. Collaboration on sponsorship from the university, institution, or other benefactors. Applications originated from individuals. Support for organizing or participating in conferences. Building and construction projects. Indirect costs, overhead, and other administrative costs will not be supported.
To inspire students and faculty alike, Buddhist study and research programs at the university and graduate levels require teachers and scholars who are knowledgeable about the Buddha’s teachings, grounded in Buddhist traditions, and open to discussing the role of Buddhism in the modern world. The Academic Development Grant provides institutions with an opportunity to enhance the presence of Buddhist scholarship and foster deeper engagement among students, faculty, and the wider community.
The grant follows a two-step submission process, beginning with the Indication of Interest form, which should be submitted as early as possible within the grant submission window. If approved, applicants will then proceed to complete the Grant Application. The deadline for submissions is December 15, with applicants being notified the following May. Funding for successful applicants becomes available in July.
The grant amount varies depending on the scope and scale of the proposed project. Through this support, universities and academic institutions are encouraged to strengthen Buddhist studies and outreach, contributing to a more vibrant and inclusive academic environment. Application closes on 15 December 2025.
