Applications are open for “SMOGATHON 2017” with an aim to provide great teams and start-ups with means to implement their air pollution-fighting ideas so they could bring a real change to the daily lives of people around the globe. Smogathon is an initiative aiming to fight the air pollution through technology.
Focus Areas
In 2017, the most-wanted categories of projects include:
- Indoor air purifying
- Outdoor air purifying
- Household power and heat generation and energy storage
- Smog as a resource
- New ways of smog mapping and predicting
- Air pollution prevention
The Prize
In addition to being awarded the prestigious title of Smogathon 2017 Winner, the best project – selected by panel of experts and the honourable jury – will receive a prize of $25 000 in cash for project development and a contract worth $75 000 for implementation of the project in Krakow.
Eligibility Criteria
- The Competition welcomes any group that works as a registered company, start-up, foundation, or a research group with a legal entity.
- The main requirement is that the solution needs to fight smog. It can be an air purifier, a device that measures the levels of pollutants, or anything that can help!
- Applications will be evaluated on an ongoing basis, so early applicants will know in advance when to book their flights to one of the semi-final locations and will have a greater chance of saving their spot.
- If team needs to travel for more than 500 kilometres in order to participate in a semi-final, the competition will provide financial support of up to $500 to cover (part of) travel expenses.
