Deadline: 30-Sep-2025
The Auckland Council has launched the Auckland Climate Grant: Strategic, a funding program designed to support community-led projects that take action on climate change.
With grants ranging from $15,000 to $50,000, this initiative provides resources to groups and organizations committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening local climate adaptation, and supporting Māori-led responses to the climate crisis. Successful applicants will have twelve months to deliver their projects.
The program focuses on community and environmental projects that inspire sustainable change. Applications must demonstrate how participants will be encouraged to adopt climate-friendly lifestyles, ensuring that funded projects create lasting behavioral and cultural shifts. By investing in local initiatives, the grant supports Auckland’s transition to a low-carbon, resilient future.
Funding priorities have been set to guide applications toward key areas of impact. Proposals that address transport, energy, and food systems will be prioritized, along with those led by Māori communities. These areas are seen as critical levers for reducing emissions and building resilience in ways that are meaningful and accessible at the community level.
Eligibility is broad, opening the program to a range of applicants. Community groups, neighbourhood associations, mana whenua and mātāwaka applicants, social enterprises, and businesses can apply. Business Improvement Districts and education providers, including early childhood centres, schools, kura, and tertiary institutions, are also welcome to submit proposals. This wide scope ensures that diverse sectors of society are empowered to take part in climate action.
The Auckland Climate Grant: Strategic reflects the council’s commitment to empowering local communities to be at the forefront of climate solutions. By fostering collaboration and supporting innovative projects, the program aims to accelerate collective action that protects the environment, strengthens resilience, and contributes to a more sustainable Auckland for future generations.
