Entries are now open for ESD Okayama Award 2022

The Okayama City and the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Okayama Award Steering Committee have launched ESD Okayama Award to reward outstanding ESD practices in local communities around the world.

The aims of the award are to support the organizations carrying out ESD activities and promote ESD to local communities globally through showcasing their initiatives.

To build a momentum, Okayama city launched the ESD Okayama Award in 2015. The ESD Okayama Award is organized by Okayama City and the ESD Okayama Award Steering Board, composed of organizations which have been promoting ESD in Japan and around the world. The ESD Okayama Award aims to showcase good ESD practices worldwide, and also to further advance SDGs since ESD is a key enabler of the achievement of all targets of SDGs.

Prize Details

US $3,000 per project

Eligibility Criteria
  • Organizations based in any country and region implementing ESD activities in local communities are eligible to apply for the Award.
  • Only one application per organization can be accepted.
  • Projects eligible for this award are ongoing and have been running for at least two years as of April 2022.
  • Projects in the planning stages are not eligible.
  • The organizations that have won the ESD Okayama Award in the past cannot apply with the awardwinning projects, but can apply with other projects.

    We are a community base group in West Africa, Ghana, in the Northern sector, focus on sustainable education in the vocational sector. We need to put up extra three classrooms block for expansion. Please are we qualify?

    Educare Initiative, a Community Based Organisation would like to operate in the ESD award to carry out educational activities in poor rural schools here. It works to promote early grade reading , improving classroom environment, mentoring and coaching teachers etc

  • This is a good build up support for the organizations working towards achieving sustainable education for the poor families living in the slums. I highly appreciate this award. i wish to apply for our organization working with the poor orphans and vulnerable children in the slums of Kayole in Nairobi-Kenya. Together we can change the society and bring development through sustainable education.
