The Wakefield Council has launched the applications for Culture Grants 2023 to enhance the creative and cultural offer across the district through supporting cultural and heritage projects, events, and activities.
Culture Grants are Wakefield Council’s grants for creatives, cultural organisations and community groups based in Wakefield district.
Categories
- Made in Wakefield Small Grants
- Small grants are expected to predominantly focus on activities which can be delivered in the short term, with a focus on providing support quickly to artists, creatives, and their communities.
- Made in Wakefield Large Grants
- Large grants are expected to be a significant new creative work, or larger participatory project with communities including culturally underserved audiences, that may be sustained or longer term.
- Culture Everywhere Micro Grants
- Culture Everywhere Micro Grants are expected to support community groups, charities, CICs, and other third sector organisations to run small arts, cultural and heritage projects, activities, and events in their local communities.
Funding Information
- Culture Grants range from £250 to £15,000.

- Made in Wakefield Small Grants – £1,500 – £5,000
- Made in Wakefield Large Grants – £5,000 – £15,000
- Culture Everywhere Micro Grants – up to £1,500
Eligibility Criteria
- Wakefield district based – Culture Grants 2023 is funding for Wakefield district. You must have a business address within Wakefield district. If you are an individual applying, then the address can be residential or a business premises e.g. a creative studio or office.
- Cultural and Creative activity – Culture Grants 2023 funding supports arts, cultural and heritage activity. Your application must focus on a project, idea or activity which is predominantly creative.
- Completed before March 2024 – Culture Grants 2023 are to support activity which will completed and evaluated before the 31March 2024. They cannot fund activity that has already happened.
- Employees of Wakefield Council / Full-Time Student – They cannot fund employees of Wakefield Council individually, or as a lead applicant for a group, organisation or collective. This funding is not suitable for full-time students.
- They cannot fund any of the following – any projects which include elements which are unsafe, illegal, defamatory, or discriminatory in any way. They cannot fund the purchase of alcohol, and we cannot fund capital investments.
- Faith groups – They can support faith groups to run community arts activity, but they cannot support religious messaging or religious activities.
