Deadline: 15-Apr-23
The International Journalists Program (IJP) is announcing its scholarship program for Turkey for the eighteenth time.
Therefore, the IJP offer German journalists to write at least two articles (online/print) or to develop radio reports or a documentary together with Turkish colleagues in October/November 2023 in Germany or in a country of the EU turn. Applications for a self-researched vlog series that is published on YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo, etc. are also possible.
Objective The scholarship program is intended to give young, ambitious journalists from Germany the opportunity to familiarize themselves with Turkey.
During their two-month work stay, the journalists should: learn to better assess the political and economic background of this state, which is important for Germany.
The range of topics is broad, here are just a few suggestions: bilateral relations, human or minority rights, climate change, Turks in Germany, secularism, Turkey and the EU, refugees in Europe, integration, expanding cultural groups, religious aspects, elections, etc.
Benefits
- They support this project with 5 grants of 1,500 euros each . This amount is intended to support travel expenses, accommodation and subsistence expenses during the research and production period. In justified cases, the amount of the scholarship can be adjusted upwards.
Eligibility Criteria
- Journalists and German alumni of all IJP programs between the ages of 25 and 45 who work as freelancers, trainees or editors at media in Germany can apply. Applicants do not need to have any knowledge of Turkish, but should have a very good command of spoken and written English.

- The documents must be complete. The selection will be made by a jury, with no legal recourse, based on the application documents by June 15, 2023 .
- The German-Turkish tandems will usually be in Istanbul or Berlin at the end of September or beginning of October 2023, at a joint introductory event with Turkish journalists from the IJP class of 2023 – who have a two-month IJP scholarship for Germany – and the German applicant: inside the tandem program.
- Of course, tandems can also apply together for this project.
- After returning from abroad, the scholarship holders undertake to submit at least a three-page experience report and copies of the published contributions.
