Applications are now open for the Waterloo Region Record Literacy Fund.
The Waterloo Region Record Literacy Fund was established to raise, invest, and allocate funds to support literacy in Waterloo Region and the communities principally served by The Waterloo Region Record in Ontario. It defines literacy as the use of printed and written information in English to function in society, to achieve one’s goals, and to develop one’s knowledge and potential.
Funding Information
- The maximum amount to apply for is $2,500
- Funding must be used for expenses incurred between June 1, 2023 and May 31, 2024.
- Approximately $6,400 in total funding is available in 2023
What they Fund
- Literacy services for adults
- English language training for newcomers
- Literacy activities for children
- Other activities that have a significant impact on literacy, such as:
- Resource materials
- Childcare and/or transportation costs for learners
- Field trips
- Community outreach and advertising
- Research directly related to program delivery
What they do not Fund
- Individuals
- For office furniture and equipment (including computers)
- Building funds
- Deficit funding
Eligibility Criteria
- The types of organizations that can apply for funding include:
- Registered charitable organizations
- Qualified donees recognized by Canada Revenue Agency (CRA)

Evaluation
- If you receive funding through the Waterloo Region Record Literacy Fund:
- they are interested in hearing your stories seeing videos/pictures and having learnings reporting of the grant. Please include these whenever possible.
- WRCF may also approach your organization to request stories of impact.
