The Arts Council of Ireland is seeking applications for its programme “Strategic Funding” to support arts organisations with ambitious and imaginative proposals to:
- assist artists in developing their practice and their ideas, and/or
- deliver excellent arts experiences to the public
Priorities
- Policy: The Arts Council has identified the following two policy priorities as part of its ten-year strategy, Making Great Art Work:
- The Artist: Artists are supported to make excellent work which is enjoyed and valued
- Public Engagement: More people will enjoy high-quality arts experiences
- Planning and decision-making: The Arts Council has also designated three areas of planning and decision-making as priorities:
- Investment Strategy: Public monies are invested effectively to realise our priorities
- Spatial and Demographic Planning: Well-planned arts provision benefits people across Ireland
- Developing Capacity: The Arts Council and the arts sector have the knowledge, skills and inventiveness to realise this strategy
- Children and Young People
- are artistically ambitious and have the potential to contribute to the ongoing development of artistic practice and provision for children and young people in Ireland
- demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the targeted age group(s) and include strategies for developing and improving young-people’s personal engagement with the arts
- include opportunities for children and young people to inform the planning and/or evaluation of the artistic programme
- demonstrate how the target audience will be reached, and, where possible, include strategies to enable children and young people from diverse social and/or cultural backgrounds to participate
Funding Information
Successful applications will be awarded funding according to funding bands:
- Band A: Up to €99,999 each year
- Band B: €100,000 – €249,999 each year
- Band C: €250,000 – €499,999 each year
- Band D: €500,000 or more each year
Eligibility Criteria
Strategic funding supports the work of professionally managed arts organisations. This funding programme is open to organisations only. Organisations can make only one application each year for Arts Council strategic funding. To be considered eligible for strategic funding, organisation must:
- apply in its own name, not in the name of an individual acting on its behalf
- be a company limited by guarantee (CLG), a designated activity company (DAC), or be committed to becoming incorporated in this way
- have received and successfully completed a minimum of three Arts Council awards since January 20112
- be in a position to demonstrate appropriate governance procedures including financial controls
- be able to produce detailed financial accounts of past activity
- have the organisational capacity to engage with the Arts Council in terms of budget setting, meeting agreed targets, and reporting on outcomes of arts activity.
