The TY Danjuma Foundation (TYDF), the first private indigenous philanthropic grantmaking organisation in Nigeria has announced its 2020 Call for Concept Notes.
Civil Society Organisations are invited to submit applications for funding of health and education projects in underserved and hard-to-reach communities across Nigeria.
Focus Areas & Grant Amount
The 2020 Call focuses on the following key areas:
- Preventable Blindness
- The key objectives of the “Vision for a Brighter Future” intervention include:
- Reduce the prevalence of cataract in targeted states by 2021.
- Reduce the burden of preventable blindness by correcting cases of refractive errors in adults in targeted states by 2021.
- Screen children in public schools for refractive errors in targeted states by 2021.
- Improve the capacity of health workers on primary eye care in targeted states by 2021.
- Increase awareness on preventable blindness in targeted states by 2021.
- Grant Size: 30 Million.
- The key objectives of the “Vision for a Brighter Future” intervention include:
- Maternal and Child Health
- The objectives of the Foundation’s “Healthy Mother, Healthy Child” include:
- To reduce the prevalence of under-five and maternal mortality in targeted states by 2021.
- To reduce the proportion of women and their new-borns without basic and emergency care by skilled birth attendants in targeted states by 2021.
- To improve the capacity of health workers to offer maternal and Child Health services through strengthened health systems in targeted states by 2021.
- Grant Size: 25 Million Naira.
- The objectives of the Foundation’s “Healthy Mother, Healthy Child” include:
- Upgrading Teachers’ Quality
- The key objectives of the Foundation’s “Upgrading Teachers’ Quality” initiative include:
- To reduce the number of teachers without the requisite skills and knowledge of basic contents to deliver quality learning in public schools in target states by 2021.
- To reduce the lack of instructional materials for teaching in target states by 2021.
- To improve the pedagogical skills of teachers to better transmit knowledge to pupils and students in targeted states by 2021.
- Grant Size: 20 Million Naira.
- The key objectives of the Foundation’s “Upgrading Teachers’ Quality” initiative include:
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants for grants must satisfy the following conditions:
- Be a registered not-for-profit organisation working in Nigeria.
- Possess a valid audit report of not more than two (2) years old (This does not apply to applicants under Community Funds scheme).
- Have a verifiable organisational structure.
- Demonstrate community participation & government involvement in the proposed intervention.
- Have a track record of engagement in similar or related activities.
Ineligible Activities and Unallowable Costs
TYDF’s grant funds cannot be utilized for the following causes:
- Political campaigns.
- Religious or sectarian activities.
- Activities to be implemented outside Nigeria.
- Overseas training of any nature.
- Any activity that is illegal.
