Winrock International, through the USAID and UK aid Hamro Samman Project, calls on innovators and problem-solvers from the private sector and the civil society in Nepal to generate new or adapted technology-enabled tools and approaches that address the risks faced by trafficking survivors and other populations at-risk of being trafficked or exploited.
The project’s Hamro Samman Innovation Challenge seeks technology-enabled tools and approaches from the private sector and the civil society in Nepal that address the risks faced by trafficking survivors and the at-risk population in a sustainable manner.
Objective
This award is aimed at increasing partnerships to contribute more effectively to the following objective of Hamro Samman:
- Increase private sector partnerships to more effectively deliver services to people trafficked or at risk of being trafficked in the entertainment sector.
The Challenge is intended to support the introduction, adaption, or scale-up of marketdriven innovative technology-based tools and approaches that reach and help protect Nepalis and prevent trafficking in a sustainable manner. The ICT solutions should meet at least one of the following outcomes:
- Improve access to safe and viable skill development and job placements in targeted sectors/industries that have employment growth potential in Nepal. The solution should build in protections to ensure that the users will not be trafficked.
- Establish an independent mechanism (such as a rating mechanism) to hold recruitment companies or businesses in the entertainment industry accountable.
- Strengthen information solutions to raise awareness and influence behaviors of key actors including migrant workers, aspiring migrant workers, workers in the entertainment industry, trafficking survivors and /or other populations at risk of being trafficked.
Grant Information
The total grant pool amount awarded to all the winners is approximately USD 150,000 equivalent to approximately NPR 15,750,000. The final amount awarded will depend on award activities and final negotiations.
Duration of Grants
The anticipated period of performance is expected to begin from January 15, 2020. The end date will vary depending on the negotiated award activities.
Eligible Applicants
This solicitation is open to all organizations including private businesses and non-profit and forprofit non-US organizations based in Nepal. To be minimally eligible for funding, applicants must comply with the following conditions:
- Be legally registered or otherwise authorized to conduct business in Nepal.
- Agree to be subject to a pre-award assessment to examine that the applicant has sound management in the form of financial, administrative, and technical policies and procedures.
- Be able to demonstrate successful past performance in implementation of similar interventions.
- Provide a documentable, measurable minimum cost-share requirement, if applicable.
- Provide a Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) number at the time of award. If the applicant already has a DUNS number, it should be included in their application. Otherwise, applicants will be expected to get a DUNS number before an award is issued.
