Together for Peace are running Climate Action Leeds Community Grants in partnership with Leeds Community Foundation.
Funding Information
- In this final grant round, they are awarding grants of up to £5,000 to support neighbourhood-based climate action projects, with a total budget of £36,000.
- Duration: Up to 1 year
Examples of Activity that can be Funded
- Projects will vary in size and scope, all using local knowledge to enable groups across the city to realise their own ideas about ways to reduce carbon, promote nature-friendly activity and increase social justice. Below are some examples of types of activity that could be funded, but groups are not restricted to these and in previous rounds there has been a wide variety of activity funded
- Local initiatives to reduce carbon and increase access to green spaces, such creating a community garden
- A feasibility study to explore green energy options for a community building
- A repair and recycle initiatives
What can’t be funded?
- Activity and costs that have already taken place
- Activity which might be regarded as discriminatory and/or excludes some people without good justification
- Activity that promotes a particular political or religious point of view
- Activity primarily for the benefit of animals
- Capital appeals for building projects
- Grant-making to other organisations and/or individuals, or applications from individuals
- Statutory organisations or activity
- Overseas organisations, expeditions or overseas travel
- Organisations that have an income over £150,000 in the last financial year
- Organisations that have previously received a Climate Action Leeds Microgrant (up to £1,500) where the grant has not been fully spent and reporting not completed
- Organisations that have received a Small Grant in the 2 previous rounds.

Eligibility Criteria
- Not-for-profit incorporated Community Organisations from the third sector such as CIO, CIC limited by guarantee, or a charitable company. You will be registered with the Charity Commission, Companies House or Mutual Public Register (FCA).
- Charities that are registered with the Charity Commission but are not an incorporated structure. These organisations cannot use grant funds towards PAYE staff costs, but funds can be used towards freelance staff costs.
- Grants of £5,000 or less
- Small unincorporated and unregistered Community Organisations can only apply if your annual income is less than £10,000, and if securing the grant would not take you above this threshold for current financial year.
- For-profit organisations, statutory organisations or activity (e.g. schools and hospitals) and overseas organisations cannot be funded.
- All organisations, regardless of size and structure, must have:
- At least three Trustees/Directors/Committee Members (whichever is applicable, depending on your organisation’s legal structure) who are independent and unrelated. For registered charitable companies, limited companies and CICs you should be limited by guarantee without share capital, and there should be no registered Persons with Significant Control
- A governing document e.g. constitution or memorandum and articles of association that shows how your group is managed and includes a dissolution clause/asset lock
- A bank or building society account in the name of your organisation with a minimum of two unrelated authorised signatories on the mandate and transactions requiring authorisation by at least two of those authorised signatories
- Accounts or a record of income and expenditure for your organisation (if you are a new organisation, you will need to provide a bank statement and a project budget)
- A relevant safeguarding policy, if your organisation works with children or vulnerable adults
Key Information
- They encourage applications from under-served and/or under-represented communities across all the funding opportunities
- Funding can support projects and activities that reduce carbon and/or are nature friendly
- Organisations and activities must be based in Leeds
- Applications are welcome from small constituted groups as well as registered community organisations, with income of under £150,000 in the last financial year
- Organisations that have received a previous Small Grant (£1,500- £5,000) from Climate Action Leeds are not eligible to apply. Organisations that have received a Micro Grant from Climate Action Leeds (up to £1,500) can apply if the grant has been spent and reporting has been completed prior to the application deadline
- Only one application per organisation can be considered
