The Science Museum Group Wroughton Solar Park Community Benefit Fund Small Grant programme, administered by the Wiltshire and Swindon Community Foundation, offers grants ranging from £500 to £2,500 to support projects that enhance the lives of residents in specific parishes.
These grants aim to foster community development and address local needs through various initiatives. Eligible projects include activities that promote community cohesion, such as events that bring people together to combat loneliness, support for children and young people, and the creation of communal spaces like gardens or play areas.
Additionally, projects focused on conserving local nature or wildlife areas, providing information and support for individuals experiencing physical or mental health issues, and promoting physical activities to improve health and well-being are also considered. Other eligible initiatives involve actions to tackle local issues like littering or waste reduction, as well as activities that help individuals learn new life skills, such as literacy, numeracy, cooking, or budgeting. Research, feasibility, or pilot projects aimed at planning larger community initiatives in the future are also eligible for funding.
Applications are welcomed from small community groups or organizations, including social groups, sports clubs, youth groups (including uniformed organizations), village halls, and support groups. Larger organizations based in Swindon or Wiltshire may also apply for projects taking place within the listed parishes. While being a registered charity is not a requirement, applicants must have a formal structure and governing document, an active voluntary management committee with at least three unrelated members, and a bank account in the organization’s name with at least two unrelated signatories.
The programme typically awards between two to six grants each year, depending on the amounts applied for. The funding supports a wide range of community-driven projects that aim to improve the quality of life for residents in the designated parishes. By providing financial assistance to these initiatives, the programme contributes to building stronger, more connected communities and addresses local challenges effectively.
