UNDP is calling for proposals for Low-value grants to local Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) that work on peace, conflict resolution, women’s rights, and social cohesion to Promote Narratives for Peace.
Purpose of the Grant Contest
- Primary purpose of the CSO/NGO initiative grants is to support local civil society to promote narratives for peace through organizing debates and dialogue involving youth male and female, Youth-led peace panel discussions, virtual spaces for communities to express about COVID-19, peace, and social matters.
- Covid-19 Response & Social Cohesion project seeks proposals from Afghan local civil society organizations (CSOs) to implement specific activities that fit this purpose with a focus on innovative and targeted activities on promoting social cohesion and peace. The Project encourages CSOs to suggest creative ways of engagement with communities specifically youth and women. Women and youth led CSOs are highly encouraged to apply.
Focus Areas
The examples of the thematic focus area could be, but not limited to the below list:
- Debates and dialogue on peace and conflict
- Promoting women’s role in peacebuilding and social cohesion
- Promoting narratives of peace and social cohesion
- Youth-led peace panel discussions
- Provision of virtual spaces to express about COVID-19, peace, and social matters
Funding Information
- Total budget of Covid-19 Response & Social Cohesion CO Project for this grant programme is USD 150,000.
- Grants will be awarded in geographical based 3 categories below but their focus area for all of them remain the same which is promote narratives for peace. Only one CSO/NGO can apply for one grant at the time from the categories below:
- Category 1 Grant: The maximum amount for this category grant is USD 50,000. The recipient of this grant should cover overall Kabul province (National level initiatives are encouraged) but should focus specifically on Sorobi district.
- Category 2 Grant: The maximum amount for this category grant is USD 50,000. The recipient of this grant should cover overall Balkh province but should focus specifically on Balkh and Dawalatabad and Balkh districts.
- Category 3 Grant: The maximum amount for this category grant is USD 50,000. The recipient of this grant should cover overall Herat province but should focus specifically on Shindad and Ghoryan districts.
Expected results of Low Value Grants
The expected results for the low value grants are.
- Promote narratives for peace in Kabul province focusing on Sorobi district, Balkh province with a focus on Dawalatabad and Balkh districts, Herat province with a focus on Shindad and Ghoryan districts. The focus should be in working with youth and women. National wide activities are also encouraged to be included.
- Organize debates and dialogue on peace and conflict in academic institutions involving youth male and female.
- Organize youth-led peace panel discussions in local communities to enrich people’s capacity broadcasted by TVs/Radios.
- Organize virtual spaces for communities to express about COVID-19, peace, and social matters.
- Any other local level innovative activities, approaches, creative thinking, and a desire to advance the range, depth, and impact of civil society initiatives on identifying ways to promote narrative for peace.
Eligibility Criteria
Grants will be provided to capable and responsible non-partisan legally- registered Afghan Civil Society Organizations and NGOs who have experience in implementing peacebuilding, conflict resolution, women human rights and social cohesion projects or similar project. Also experience of managing of projects with comparable budget size. Previous working in the targeted provinces and districts. Individuals, firms, and government entities are not eligible to apply under this Call for Proposals.
