Deadline: 06-Dec-2025
The World Food Programme (WFP) has launched a call for expressions of interest aimed at addressing chronic and acute malnutrition in Chad’s Salamat Province.
This initiative focuses on strengthening community involvement in nutrition interventions and ensuring the effective management of malnutrition among children and women of reproductive age.
The program’s core objective is to reinforce community participation in the management of acute malnutrition in children aged 6 to 23 months and among pregnant and breastfeeding women. It includes the identification and care of moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) cases through local nutrition units, while severe cases (MAS) will be referred to appropriate treatment programs. In addition, children aged 6 to 59 months will receive nutritional supplements to support recovery and prevent further deterioration.
Beyond direct treatment, the initiative seeks to improve access to maternal and child health care, ensuring adequate nutrition during pregnancy and early childhood. It also aims to diversify household income sources and enhance community knowledge through the establishment and support of Clubs des Mères and Mamans Lumières. These groups will play an essential role in nutrition education, promoting better use of agricultural production, and strengthening preventive measures against malnutrition at the community level.
Cash transfers will be distributed to families with children under two years of age and to pregnant and breastfeeding women as part of efforts to prevent malnutrition. Regular educational sessions will be organized across all FARNE centers to improve awareness of essential family practices, nutrition, hygiene, and disease prevention.
Furthermore, the program emphasizes capacity-building for implementing partners to ensure adherence to national nutrition protocols, effective monitoring, accurate reporting, and the application of strategic and operational guidelines. Community-based nutrition surveillance systems will also be reinforced to strengthen coordination among local and national actors.
Through this call, WFP aims to promote lasting improvements in the nutritional status of children and mothers in the Salamat region, while building stronger, more resilient communities equipped to prevent and manage malnutrition effectively.
