One Young World launched the Ilia Calderón Scholarship to support young Afro-descendant or Indigenous leaders.
Following the success of the “Ilia Calderón” Scholarship in 2021 and 2022, One Young World has once again teamed up with the Jang-Calderón Family Foundation to support young Afro-descendant or Indigenous leaders between the ages of 18 and 30, who are leading innovative and impactful initiatives in Latin America and the Caribbean. The “Ilia Calderón” scholarship will select and finance the participation of two Afro-descendant or Indigenous leaders who will be able to travel to the United Kingdom and attend the One Young World Summit 2023 in Belfast, United Kingdom.
What does the scholarship provide?
- Entry to the One Young World Summit 2023 in Belfast.
- Lodging in private rooms from October 2 to 5, 2023;
- International transport to and from Belfast (tourist class);
- National transportation to the airport for the international flight (tourist class);
- Visa expenses, if applicable;
- Public transport between the accommodation and the Summit venue in Belfast;
- Meals during the days of the event (breakfast, lunch and dinner);
- Translation from English to Spanish in the plenary sessions, welcome and closing ceremony.
Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates must have:
- Between 18 – 30 years old at the time of the One Young World Summit which will take place in Belfast from 2-5 October 2023.
- Eligible Nationalities: Colombia, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Panama, Honduras, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Cuba, Dominica, Guyana, Grenada, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Brazil.
- Candidates will also be evaluated on the following:
- Commitment and potential benefit for the communities or territories to which it belongs.
- Relevance of the initiatives that you lead or in which you have participated.
- Demonstrate leadership ability.
- Address local and/or global problems in your community or territory.
- Have a track record of generating impactful and innovative ideas.
- Motivation to participate in One Young World.
