The Alaska Community Foundation’s Strengthening Organizations Program is a capacity-building program to support projects that strengthen the applicant organization, ensuring it has well-organized systems and experienced staff with the training and resources necessary to successfully provide services.
Categories
- Projects must fit into one of the following eight categories:
- Board training and/or board-related consultants
- Executive Director, CEO, or Tribal Administrator recruitment and/or coaching
- Staff training and leadership development
- Volunteer training and skills development
- Strategic or business planning
- Donor development and fundraising planning
- Financial Management Capacity
- Technology Training
Funding Information
- Award Size: Up to $10,000.
- Projects proposed in the fall must be planned to begin no earlier than January 1st and end no later than December 31. Projects proposed in the spring must be planned to begin no earlier than May 1 and end no later than April 30. Extensions can be requested if needed.
Ineligible Funding
- The following activities and expenses are not eligible costs:
- Registration and travel for professional conferences
- Contracts with grant writers for specific grant writing projects
- Annual memberships and subscription fees
Eligibility Criteria
- Geographic Requirement
- Organizations must serve Alaska. Organizations headquartered outside Alaska may apply but should demonstrate significant service to the state or partner with a local organization/group that does.
- Entity Type
- Organizations with a 501(c)(3) designation, individuals and organizations that have a fiscal sponsor with a 501(c)(3) designation, Tribes and Tribal entities, K12 schools, city governments and boroughs, collaborations of nonprofit and public agencies, or other entities that have a designated charitable purpose will be considered. Organizations with religious affiliations will be considered for funding only if the project for which they seek support addresses the needs of the wider community without regard to religious beliefs. 501(c)4, 501(c)6, and 501(c)7 organizations are not eligible for funding.

Selection Criteria
- Applications will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
- Organizational Impact: Will the project have meaningful, sustainable, and lasting benefits to the organization?
- Right-Size: Is the project sized well for the organization based upon the organization’s annual expenses and staffing?
- Feasibility & Value: Is the activity feasible and worthwhile at the amount budgeted?
