The Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art (PMC) is now accepting applications for the Event Support Grants.
Event Support Grants are offered in the autumn and spring rounds to support organisations when hosting events in the field of British art or architectural history.
The grant is an award for the practical expenses incurred in hosting and making accessible lectures, conferences, workshops, symposia and seminars for scholars or provided at a scholarly level for a wider audience.
The PMC is an educational charity that champions new ways of understanding British art history and culture. Through all areas of their work, including their Grants and Fellowships programme, they promote activities that enhance and expand knowledge of British art and architecture. As an organisation, they pledge themselves to ensuring that the histories of British art are enriched and made more relevant to a broader range of people in the future. The inclusion of voices, narratives and experiences that have been marginalised or excluded in the past will have a transformational impact on the future of the Centre and upon British art studies. Accordingly, the Paul Mellon Centre particularly welcomes applications from those who are under-represented within the academic field of the humanities in the UK.
Scope
- Event Support Grants are awards specifically designed to support organisations in hosting events in the field of British art or architectural history such as lectures, conferences, workshops, symposia and seminars for scholars or provided at a scholarly level for a wider audience.
- Organisations may claim for the following costs:
- venue hire
- travel and accommodation costs for speakers
- staffing costs
- speaker fees/honorariums
- catering costs
- printing and publicity
- allocation of free or reduced-fee places for students
- tools to increase accessibility of the event (e.g. live captioning, BSL translator hire, live stream capabilities and equipment hire such as wheelchair ramps, induction loop facility etc.)
- equipment hire for producing video recordings and/or audio formats
- fees associated with virtual event hosting platforms (e.g. Zoom subscription)
- tools to increase accessibility of the event (e.g. live captioning)
Funding Information
- Event Support Grants are offered for up to a maximum of £3,000.
Eligibility Criteria
- The funding programme supports research, educational activities and the dissemination of knowledge in the fields of British art and architectural history, from the medieval period to the present day and across the spectrum of relevant geographical and cultural contexts. The remit is broadly defined and adapts as the interests of those working in their field change. It encompasses art made in Britain or by British artists, but is not solely limited to art made, or artists from, within the geographical boundaries of the British isles. Rather they understand the field of British art studies to encompass a broad range of subjects and topics related to the artistic and cultural histories of Britain, past and present.
- They do not offer grants and fellowships in field archaeology, the current practice of architecture or the performing arts. Applications in the fields of photography, performance, film and digital media will need to demonstrate their relevance to British art studies.
- Event Support Grants are not open to individual applicants; applications for collaborative events are permitted but one of the organisations must be nominated as the lead for the grant administration.
- Events are expected to take place within a year of the award being made and applicants should provide as much detail about the event as possible (e.g. list of confirmed speakers, venue details etc.)
