Deadline: 18-Jun-25
The Mayo County Council is seeking applications for its Inclusive Communities Small Grants Fund to support groups who wish to host events, workshops or initiatives which prioritise the integration of people in International Protection, Beneficiaries of Temporary Accommodation BOTP (Ukrainian Community) and Refugees in Mayo.
A range of actions and supports can be applied for under the grant that promote mutual understanding, shared experiences, and social cohesion between new communities and local communities by creating opportunities for cultural exchange, dialogue, and participation in social activities.
Focus Areas
- Community Events: Initiatives that encourage refugees/asylum seekers/BOTP’s to be part of the community and assist with engagement with community members such as Tidy Towns groups, local festivals groups.
- Cultural Festivals: Support for events that bring together refugees/asylum seekers /BOTP’s and local community members to celebrate cultural diversity. These can include festivals featuring food, music, dance, storytelling, and other cultural expressions.
- Sports and Recreation Activities: Sports and physical activities are universal languages that can break down cultural barriers. These grants would fund sports leagues, recreational activities, and fitness programs that encourage participation by refugees/asylum seekers/BOTP’s and locals alike.
- Cultural Education Workshops: Programs that offer both refugees and locals opportunities to learn about each other’s cultural practices, traditions, and values, helping to create empathy and reduce cultural misunderstandings.
- Arts & Media projects: These grants would support a range of artistic projects, such as visual arts, crafts, music, theatre, and dance, that give new communities an opportunity to connect with their local community with a shared experience of self-expression/storytelling.
