Apply for USAID’s District Inclusive Education Support Project in South Africa!

The United States Government, represented by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Southern Africa, is seeking applications for its “District Inclusive Education Support Project (DIESP) in South Africa” in order to identify effective approaches to improving inclusive education that can be scaled with GoSA and other resources.

The goal of the overall USAID/SA education program is to improve reading skills of primary grade learners. For children with barriers to learning there is a need for greater support and additional background work for the Department of Basic Education (DBE) in order to realize this goal.

The project objective is to improve language and literacy pedagogy of primary grade teachers in an inclusive setting.

Expected Outcomes

  • Accelerate the capacity of schools to transform from mainstream to full service schools;
  • Increase the percentage of children with disabilities in full service schools;
  • Increase the Capacity of Districts to support schools and teachers on inclusive curriculum, pedagogy and assessment practices;
  • Increase the Capacity of Special Needs Schools to function as effective Resource Centres in promoting Inclusive Education

Eligibility Criteria

  • Unrestricted (i.e., open to any type of entity)
  • Responses to this project is unrestricted (1.e., open to any type of entity), however, any resultant Notice of Funding Opportunity will be limited to South African Local Organisations.
