The Open Education Consortium and the University of Cape Town, is inviting proposals for its Open Education Global 2017 Conference that will take place in Cape Town, South Africa, from 8-10 March 2017.
The theme of the Open Education Global 2017 Conference is ‘Open for Participation’. In keeping with this theme, the consortium will not have formal conference tracks, rather, they welcome all proposals concerning taking an open approach in education. This includes formal and non-formal education; primary, secondary and higher education; open educational practices, projects, policies, research, collaborations and impact; open data, open access, open science, open organizations, open source software, etc. They are open to your ideas.
The Open Education Consortium is a global network of educational institutions, individuals and organizations that support an approach to education based on openness, collaboration, innovation and collective development and use of open educational materials. The University of Cape Town is one of South Africa’s leading universities. Founded in 1829, UCT has a proud tradition of academic excellence and effecting social change and development through its pioneering scholarship, faculty and students.

Selection Criteria
- Original: the proposal explores a new idea, project or issue; discusses new research; or presents new ways of considering existing information
- Engaging: presentation format will involve the audience in some way, or has high potential to attract conference attendees by addressing needs of the community
- Significant: the proposal raises and discusses issues important to improving the effectiveness and/or sustainability of open education efforts, and its contents can be broadly disseminated and understood
- High Quality: claims are supported by sufficient data; claims draw upon relevant literature; and limitations are described honestly
- Clear: the intended outcomes of the session are easily understood
- Relevant: the proposal has clear relevance to open education.
