The Black Trans Fund (BTF) is seeking applications for the Community Care Grant Program to change culture by shifting the narrative about Black Trans communities towards joy and resilience, and away from violence and despair.
The Black Trans Fund is a fund explicitly for Black transgender, gender non-conforming, and gender-expansive communities rooted in the resilience and legacy of Black Trans leaders. They support bold, innovative, and underfunded organizations to build power and create meaningful impact in their communities.
Funding Information
Community Care Grant funding for 2022 may range from $3,000 to $10,000 and are for a 6-month term.
Eligibility Criteria
Community Care Grant Funding is open to all Black trans-identified communities, although strongly they encourage applications that uplift and center:
- Black trans masculine communities
- Black non-binary, gender-expansive, gender non-conforming communities
- Black trans-identified sex workers
- Black trans communities identifying as disabled and/or navigating chronic health conditions
- Black trans youth and teenagers
The Black Trans Fund defines Black trans-led grassroots organizing as working with directly impacted communities to act collectively to change conditions harmonizing the community due to systemic oppression and state-sanctioned violence. The Community Care Grant opportunity invites requests centering the joy and liberation of Black trans communities and may include:
- Mutual Aid – Moving resources directly to the community, offering to support the wellbeing of the community.
- Wellness and Healing – Offerings of healing sessions, convening, and retreats, supports for mental and emotional health, and gender-affirming care.
- Organizing and Activism – Community-organized campaigns, educational offerings and training, leadership development, and movement response.
- Gender Justice for Trans and Gender-Expansive Youth – supporting organizations, and initiatives that are protecting, supporting, and advocating for trans youth in schools, sports, health, and wellness amidst current l egislative threats and/or bans on body autonomy and affirmation.
Criteria
Before beginning the application process, please make sure you have the following information and documents ready:
- Organization summary information (contact information, budget, nonprofit status)
- Tax sponsor information, if applicable
- 501(c) 3 letter or fiscal sponsor’s 501(c) 3 letter
- Three print int quality action photos that illustrate your organization’s work in 2020.
