The Columbia Basin Trust is currently accepting applications for Non-Profit Smart Grants to support Basin non-profits and First Nations and increase their energy efficiency, generate renewable energy, adapt to the impacts of climate change, and/or reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.
Grant Streams
- Stream One – Electric Vehicles and Charging Stations
- This stream supports the purchase of one new electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle for use in Basin communities, and/or up to two charging stations.
- Stream Two – Renewable Energy and Improvements to Buildings
- This stream supports solar photovoltaic arrays, energy efficiency retrofits or other building improvements to structures or property.
Funding Information
- Stream One – Electric Vehicles and Charging Stations
- Electric Vehicles
- Up to 75% of eligible costs to a maximum of $75,000 towards the purchase of one EV. Quotes including applicable fees, taxes, and shipping must be provided with the application.
- Charging Stations
- Up to 75% for installing up to two charging stations to a cumulative maximum of $35,000. Quotes including supply and installation must be provided with the application.
- Electric Vehicles
- Stream Two – Renewable Energy and Improvements to Buildings
- Renewable Energy Generation
- Up to 75% of eligible costs to a maximum of $75,000
- Improvements to Buildings or Property
- Up to 75% of eligible costs to a maximum of $150,000.
- Renewable Energy Generation
Ineligible Project
- Stream One – Electric Vehicles and Charging Stations
- Ineligible projects include projects that are intended for:
- personal use of staff/volunteers;
- uses that do not tie directly to operational requirements and demonstrated need;
- renting out to generate revenue;
- rideshare;
- uses that involve the adoption of technologies that are not market-ready;
- relieve any level of government of its obligations; or
- use outside of the Basin.
- Individual project eligibility is determined by the Trust at its sole discretion.
- Ineligible projects include projects that are intended for:
- Stream Two – Renewable Energy and Improvements to Buildings
- Ineligible projects include projects that:
- focus on research, planning, communications or involve advocacy or lobbying;
- improve buildings or properties that:
- contain personal residences;
- are rented out to individuals and/or commercial enterprises to generate income; or
- are a sports facility or a place of worship.
- involve the adoption of technologies that are not market-ready; or
- relieve any level of government of its obligations.
- Individual project eligibility is determined by the Trust at its sole discretion
- Ineligible projects include projects that:
Who can apply?
- You can apply if you are a registered non-profit with broad community impact or First Nation in the Columbia Basin region.
- Eligible non-profit organizations include but are not limited to:
- Social service agencies, organizations or societies
- BC Métis societies, associations and Chartered Communities
- Food banks/food recovery initiatives
- Libraries/reading centers
- Seniors societies or associations
- Community halls, visitor centres
- Arts, culture, and heritage venues (theatres, galleries, and museums)
- Non-profit societies that operate childcare facilities.
