The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has launched the call for proposals to strengthen Burundian media to promote justice, human rights and social cohesion through quality content.
Objective
- Identify gaps in the treatment of issues relating to justice, human rights including women’s human rights and social cohesion.
- Strengthen the capacity of Burundian media, including community and online media, to produce educational and informative content on justice, human rights, and social cohesion.
- Promote a better understanding of issues related to human rights, justice, and social cohesion within Burundian media.
- Foster collaboration between the media, Burundian justice sector institutions, and civil society organizations.
Thematic Priorities
- Proposals must address the following themes:
- Human rights: equality, non-discrimination, and the rights of vulnerable groups, particularly women, youth, children, and people with disabilities, including national and international legal frameworks.
- Access to justice and judicial transparency in Burundi.
- Fight against impunity and promotion of the rule of law.
- Social cohesion.
- Other innovative themes contributing to equality, human rights, justice, and social cohesion—at the local or national level.
Funding Information
- Funding will be awarded in the form of a grant with a budget not exceeding BIF 144,630,150 for all grants in this call for proposals.
Duration
- 6 months from signing the contract.
Eligible Activities
- Proposals may include, among other activities:
- Organization of training courses and workshops for professionals and other Burundian media stakeholders.
- Development of guides or educational resources on human rights, justice, and social cohesion—specifically adapted to the Burundian media context.
- Production and distribution of multimedia content (articles, podcasts, videos, reports, etc.)
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicant organizations or media outlets must meet the following criteria:
- Be a Burundian media and/or journalist organization officially registered in Burundi.
- Be in compliance with national laws and regulations.
- Have proven experience in producing content or organizing training related to the themes of the call.
- Have sufficient human and technical capacity to successfully complete the proposed project within the specified timeframe.
- Have sufficient and qualified human resources to supervise and carry out activities.
