CFAs: Promoting Awareness of EU Rights and Values in Peripheral Regions

The Transatlantic Foundation (TF), in cooperation with the Engaging Central Europe (ECE) program of The German Marshall Fund of the United States, is launching a dedicated call for applications to enhance understanding of and support for EU rights and values, with a special focus on fundamental rights, democracy, and the rule of law, among populations in peripheral and rural areas.

Funding Information
  • Under this call, TF will support short-to-medium-term projects with a duration of 6 to 12 months, with a budget ranging from EUR 10,000 to EUR 15,000 for single-country projects and from EUR 10,000 to EUR 30,000 for cross-border projects.
  • The available overall call budget is EUR 300,000. TF reserves the right not to award all available funds depending on the proposals received and the results of the evaluations.
Eligible Activities
  • Types of Eligible Activities:
    • Online/offline awareness-raising and outreach activities promoting the importance of rights and values under the EU treaties and the Charter of Fundamental Rights among the general public and key actors such as local stakeholders.
    • Organization of civic dialogues, discussion platforms, and debate series on EU rights and values themes and their impact on citizens’ everyday life.
    • Local heroes and storytelling campaigns anchoring EU rights and values through accessible and tangible examples.
    • Local/regional/cross-border rights and values (human rights) festivals.
    • Youth camps dedicated to the theme of EU rights and values.
    • Local/regional media campaigns featuring content on the local impact of rights and values
    • Public art and participatory theatre projects.
    • Anti-fake-news campaigns combating disinformation related to rights and values.
Eligibility Criteria
  • The call is open to civil society organizations (CSOs) and non-profit-making entities established in Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia. CSOs applying must demonstrate compliance with the fundamental rights and values that the EU is founded upon as well as a proven track record in the protection of democracy, transparency, and human rights.
  • Natural persons and for-profit entities are not eligible. Further, applicants can neither be affiliated entities, nor associates, nor contractors of TF.
