The Auckland Council is accepting applications for its Regional Arts and Culture Project Grants.
Objectives
- Increase opportunities for Aucklanders to experience and participate in arts and culture
- Better communicate what’s on offer
- Remove barriers to access and participation
- Grow and deliver strategic investment in arts and culture to enable a thriving and resilient sector
- Evaluate and promote the economic, social, cultural and environmental value of investment in Auckland’s arts and culture
- Support a network of complementary arts and cultural institutions and facilities
- Promote the city centre as Auckland’s major cultural destination
- Provide a regional spread of vibrant diverse and affordable creative spaces
- Tell their stories by encouraging unique and distinctive public art that reflects and responds to their place
- Make it easier to plan, create and deliver innovative art and design in public places
- Celebrate Māori and their culture as a point of difference
- Support and celebrate creative excellence
- Promote Auckland as a creative city with a unique cultural identity
- Champion the creative sector to grow Auckland’s economy
- Foster education, collaboration and professional development for the creative sector

- Auckland values and invests in arts and culture
- A network of vibrant arts and culture organisations and facilities
- Arts and culture is intrinsic to Auckland’s place-making
- Auckland celebrates a unique cultural identity
- Auckland has a robust and flourishing creative economy
Types of Activities
- Grants awarded through this programme will include a mix of:
- one-off and multi-year project grants for standalone initiatives
- strategic relationship funding.
Funding Information
- Grant value:
- $3000 – $25,000
Eligible Projects
- These projects increase professionalism and build the sustainability of regional arts and culture organisations by developing:
- feasibility studies
- organisational development
- digital/web development activities
- a new sponsorship/patron programme
- strategic, business and marketing plans.
Ineligible Costs
- Debt servicing or repayment.
- Legal or medical expenses.
- Activities that promote religious ministry or political purposes.
- Public services that are the responsibility of central government such as core education and health.
- Physical works such as improvements to community buildings before the appropriate consents are obtained.
- Retrospective costs (already incurred and cannot be recovered).
- Travel and accommodation outside Auckland.
- Purchase of alcohol.
Eligibility Criteria
- They must also do one or more of the following:
- represent specific art forms at the regional level
- play a role in the arts and culture sector in Auckland, like through strategic advocacy, capacity and capability building
- be an iwi or other Māori organisation involved in arts and culture activity
- deliver arts and cultural experiences to under-served populations
- deliver arts and cultural experiences in non-traditional settings.
