IHDCYH in collaboration with the Institute of Aboriginal Peoples’ Health (IAPH) has announced a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) New Investigator Grants in Maternal, Reproductive, Child and Youth Health with an aim to strengthen Canada’s capacity and knowledge to respond to challenges and needs by providing important early career development support to researchers in these fields.
The objective of this funding opportunity is to build research capacity by supporting New Investigators in initiating and conducting independent research in the area of maternal, reproductive, child and youth health.
Funding Information
- The total amount available from CIHR for this funding opportunity is $1,800,000, enough to fund up to 24 grants.
- The maximum amount per grant from CIHR is $25,000 per year for up to 3 years for a total of $75,000.
- The CIHR contribution must be matched at a minimum of 1:2 by the successful applicant’s host institution or other partner for a total of $150,000 over 3 years.
Eligibility Criteria
For an application to be eligible:
- The Nominated Principal Applicant (NPA) must be an independent researcher appointed at an eligible institution
- At the time of application, the NPA must also meet both of the following eligibility criteria:
- Be within five years (60 months) of their first academic or research appointment (i.e. appointment as an independent researcher providing eligibility to apply for grants and supervise trainees).
- Have at least 50% protected time for research.
- If applying to the IAPH funding pool, the NPA must self-identify as Indigenous to Canada (i.e. First Nations, Inuit, or Métis)
