The Cork Historical and Archaeological Society is pleased to invite applications for funds to support small projects involving archaeological or historical research, which are undertaken over one year.
Project Schemes
- Scheme 1: Archaeology of Cork.
- To support the recording and/or analysis of archaeological monuments, sites or landscapes in the city and county of Cork. To include general area surveys as well as specialist studies involving field-walking, monument survey, architectural recording, geophysical survey etc. (but not archaeological excavation). Funding support for small publication initiatives will also be considered.
- Scheme 2: History of Cork.
- To fund specialist studies connected to historical research (e.g. purchase of photographs, digital recording, folklore recording etc) or to defray expenses relating to work in libraries and archives.
- Funding support for small publication initiatives will also be considered.
Funding Information
- Individual grant applications up to a maximum award of €1,000 will be considered in each category.
Outcomes
- A typed (and possibly illustrated) report on the grant-aided project should be sent to the Secretary by the end of December in the year of award. A 300-word abstract of that report will also be required, which will be uploaded onto the CHAS website.
- A financial statement with receipts detailing the expenditure of the project grant should be included (important for audit purposes).
- If merited, they would encourage each grantee to submit the results of their work for publication in their Journal.
Eligibility Criteria
- Individuals and groups are encouraged to apply, including local historians and archaeologists, postgraduate research students, as well as local societies and schools in Co. Cork.
Conditions
- The Society accepts no liability for any loss, damage or injury incurred by the applicant(s), landowners or public arising out of work undertaken in these research projects. Applicants must arrange their own insurance to cover such eventualities.
- It is the responsibility of each applicant to secure the necessary permissions, licences or copyright clearances to cover the work of their project.
- The discovery of new archaeological sites or monuments in the course of these projects should be reported to the National Monuments Service, Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, and, in the case of artifact finds, to the National Museum of Ireland.
- Awardees should acknowledge the support of the Society in any publications, public lectures, websites, signage etc. arising from their project.
