Deadline: 29 September 2017
The DaNa Facility, funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID) is seeking applications for its Business Innovation Window (BIW) to empower women and other disadvantaged groups to better participate in, and benefit from, Myanmar’s economic development, and help shape the growth of more inclusive, competitive and wealth-creating markets.
The Business Innovation Window is designed to catalyse private sector investment and innovation in inclusive business projects that are commercially viable, have significant social impacts and will help transform markets in Myanmar.
Focus Sectors
- Garments and textiles
- Agribusiness
- Community forestry
- Financial inclusion
Funding Information
The total funding available for each grant, and which must be (at least) matched by applicants, will fall within the following limits:
- Lower limit: GBP 150,000
- Upper limit: GBP 750,000
Duration
The duration of grants is typically expected to be from 18 to 30 months.
Eligibility Criteria
- Any business enterprise that is legally allowed to operate in Myanmar is eligible for funding under the BIW. This includes publicly-listed, single or multiple owner-managed, national and multinational companies. Most grant partners are expected to be businesses already operating at a relatively large scale because of the importance of scale of impact in BIW’s objectives. However, relatively small enterprises that are able to implement a project with significant transformative potential will also be considered.
- To increase effectiveness and impact, businesses are welcome to team-up with other business enterprises, as well as not-for-profit organisations, such as social enterprises, civil society organisations (CSOs), and non-government organisations (NGOs). The objective should be to have the necessary mix of skill sets and experience to increase the likelihood that the project is successful and has a strong impact. However, the development of consortia to enact a project should only be pursued where this makes business sense and brings added value. Moreover, a ‘for-profit’ business organisation must remain in the lead as the contracting entity.
