Deadline: 23 December 2016
The UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) is currently seeking applications for its programme titled- Increasing Family Planning Use through Interventions to Change Shared Behaviours and Beliefs in Mozambique.
The UK will provide new funds to strengthen Mozambique’s health system and improve reproductive, maternal, neonatal and adolescent health (from now on referred to as RMH) for up to 4 million people. RMH is an internationally accepted proxy measure for the strength of the health system, with progress in this area an indication that the overall system is getting stronger.
It will also help meet the Sustainable Development Goals on healthy lives and empowering women and girls.
Programme Components
- The first component is the subject of this Information Notice which is to provide Technical Assistance and financial support to pilot innovative RMH and family planning outreach interventions based on market-led models, social marketing and best practice in behaviour change interventions. Through this option DFID would promote market led models to scale up the delivery of family planning services and information to youth. It would directly involve adolescents to deliver communications and services where appropriate. Social marketing pilots would be implemented to promote family planning as an aspirational lifestyle for the youth in urban and rural areas, together with communication interventions targeting influential members of the communities, to help create an enabling environment for youth access to and uptake of family planning. This will be delivered through a service provider and will take an adaptive programming approach to bring about social change;
- The complementary components will be to support technical and financial support to health systems strengthening at national and sub-national level and to financial support policy influencing, coordination, monitoring and evaluation and lesson-learning, feeding back into policy advice at senior level within the Mozambican Government Ministry of Health.
