The European Journalism Centre (EJC) is seeking applicants for its Global Health Journalism Grant Programme for Germany to support projects that are aimed at improving the reporting on health care in developing countries and the German contribution to this topic.
Each fellow will create and publish a series of items that shed light on health-related issues of developing countries, while putting health into the broader context of development cooperation, political stability, migration, and international relations.
The European Journalism Centre (EJC) is a non-profit international foundation with the remit to improve, strengthen, and underpin journalism and the news media. This mission has two main aspects:
- Safeguarding , enhancing, and future-proofing quality journalism in Europe
- Supporting initiatives towards press freedom in emerging and developing countries
Grant Information
- The EJC, during the next 18 months, will award 16 scholarships to freelance journalists.
- Each scholarship is endowed with € 10,000
- Stipends will cover the fees and costs for the preparation of the journalistic work. In addition, a budget is available, which reimburses extra expenses such as travel abroad and possible technical costs for crews, equipment, data procurement and data analysis, visualization, translations etc.
Eligibility Criteria
- Freelance journalists who have experience with the subject of health, science, development cooperation and a relevant German media organization or for an organization with visible dissemination scope in Germany can apply.
- Nationality or citizenship of applicants does not matter.
- Eligible projects must have a clear relation to Germany, eg to the general German development policy and cooperation, or to organizations or companies located in Germany which are working on development-relevant topics or are connected in other ways.
