The City of Ballarat is now offering grants through its Empowering Communities Grant Program to support groups and organisations to deliver projects, programs, events and activities which improve outcomes for LGBTQIA+, culturally diverse communities, women, people with disabilities, older adults, young people (12-25) and First Nations communities.
Programs must relate to:
- Discrimination
- Connection
- Safety
Funding Priorites
- Initiatives that celebrate diversity, reduces discrimination and racism and facilitate positive encounters and exchanges amongst all residents and communities.
- Strategies that build the capacity of individuals, organisations and communities to prevent racism and discrimination, or take a community wide or partnership approach to local campaigns.
- Opportunities that support the inclusion and social connection of their LGBTIQA+, disability, culturally diverse, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, youth or senior community members.
- Projects that create safe and welcoming public spaces for priority groups including LGBTIQA+ people, culturally diverse, women, people with disabilities, older adults, young people and First Nations communities.
- Targeted strategies to improve experiences of safety for diverse communities in public or private spaces through improved service access and reporting, awareness and knowledge building or other preventative approaches.
- Projects that address underlying cultures and behaviours that contribute to reduced perceptions of safety and increased crime, with a focus on improving outcomes for diverse communities.
Funding Information
Groups and organisations can apply for funding amounts between $10,000 and $100,000 (excluding GST) with a total grant pool of $450,000.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to apply for the Empowering Communities Ballarat Grants, you must be one of the following:
- Local, not-for-profit incorporated organisation, group, or association
- Non-incorporated group that is auspiced1 by an incorporated group. If you plan on having your grant managed by an auspice organisation, you must have confirmed the auspice organisation’s agreement to manage the grant in advance of the closing date. Any legally constituted body may act as an auspice
- All applicants from outside of Ballarat must demonstrate their partnership with a local organisation by uploading a letter of support. This letter should also outline the nature of the partnership.
