Entries open for Weir Charitable Trust Grant Program (UK)

Submissions are now open for the Weir Charitable Trust to support Scottish-based community groups and charities to provide services across Scotland to help the Scottish community.

Eligible Projects
  • They support services/projects, run by Scottish-based community groups and charities, in the following qualifying categories that address any aspect of the following purposes:
    • Animal Welfare
      • For the advancement of animal welfare.
    • Culture
      • Supporting the heritage – tangible or otherwise – of Scotland, through project that encourage participation in and preservation of Scotland’s distinctive culture.
    • Health
      • The advancement of health, including prevention or relief of sickness, disease or human suffering.
    • Sport
      • Encouraging and increasing public participation in sport (activities which involve physical skill and exertion).
    • Recreational facilities
      • The provision or organization of recreational facilities (buildings, pitches or similar) with the aim of improving the conditions of life for the people for whom the facilities are promarily intended. This is only in relation to facilities which are primarily intended for people who need them due to age, ill – health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage.
Ineligible Projects 
  • They don’t fund:
    • Any individual
    • Any commercial venture, including start-ups
    • Groups or charities with an income of more than £125,000
    • A governing body
    • A public sector body
    • Seeking money for sponsored events to raise funds for a charity
    • Applications from outwith Scotland
    • One off events such as Gala Days, exhibitions etc
    • Large capital projects in excess of £100,000
    • Groups such as Community Councils and PTAs
    • Education costs such as university fees
    • Sports strips
Eligibility Criteria
  • They may be able to help if you meet all of the following criteria:
    • You are a charity or not for profit community group.
    • You are based and operate in Scotland, providing services to improve the quality of life for the people of Scotland.
    • Your application meets one of the five Qualifying Categories.
    • You are seeking funding of less than £25,000.
Ineligibility Criteria
  • The Trust will not accept applications from individuals.
  • Nor will it accept applications related to commercial activity, research, pilot projects, educational establishments, governing bodies or public sector bodies, nor can it provide monies for sponsorship.
  • Applications from outwith Scotland or for projects or activities outwith Scotland will not be considered.
