The Auckland Council is accepting applications for its Franklin Discretionary Community Grant to provide contestable and discretionary grants to local communities.
Priorities
- Their grants will be targeted towards supporting the following priorities:
- Support community and iwi driven initiatives that will protect and restore the natural environment and address the impacts of climate change.
- Protect and enhance the mauri (lifeforce) of their awa (waterways), moana (ocean) and ngahere (indigenous forests).
- Enable their people to engage with local history and share their cultures.
- Build and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with Māori.
- Their people are supported to actively contribute to their community and the places they live.
- Support community-led arts and local events that bring people together to meet each other and have fun at no or low cost.
- Their community support agencies, resident groups and marae are supported to coordinate or deliver a range of community wellbeing and resilience services and programmes.
- Higher priority for eligibility
- They will prioritise projects that:
- adhere to the Smokefree Policy
- promote waste minimisation and endorse zero waste practices.
- They will prioritise projects that:
- Lower priority for eligibility
- A lower priority will be given to applications for:

The grants programme will support the following outcomes:
- Kaitiakitanga and protection for their environment.
- Cultural heritage and Māori identity is expressed in their communities.
- A sense of belonging and strong community participation.
