The Council of Europe’s Gender Equality Division has launched a call for proposals for an NGO grant to promote the fight against sexism.
Aims
In particular, it aims to:
- Encourage public debate around the prevalence of and response given to sexism by different actors, so as to promote higher levels understanding/awareness of the phenomena and identify adequate answers, as appropriate and relevant to different national contexts.
- Promote the use of the Council of Europe Recommendation on preventing and Combating Sexism as a concrete tool to eradicate sexism.
General Objective
- Projects/actions proposed by NGOs with a strong experience and expertise in the area of gender equality and women’s rights;
- Projects/actions targeting stakeholders that can have a multiplier effect;
- Projects/actions involving sustainable outcomes and good country coverage.
Types of Action
- Projects/actions concerning only or mainly individual scholarships for studies or training courses;
- Projects/actions supporting political parties (although some activities targeting political parties, to prevent and combat sexism, shall not be excluded).
Means of Action
- Production of general communication tools, including a title and visual identity based on the content of the Recommendation and making full use of, and building on, existing Council of Europe tools related to the Recommendation, notably the video and action page.
- Dissemination of information regarding Council of Europe Recommendation CM/Rec(2019)1 on Preventing and Combating Sexism.
- Dissemination of existing Council of Europe tools related to the Recommendation, notably the video and action page (information to be provided by the Council of Europe Gender Equality Division).
- Dissemination of other generic communication and/or advocacy tools produced in the framework of the project by the grantee as relevant.
Specific activities adapted to the needs and situation of the country shall be undertaken in the 10 member states covered by the project. By way of example, they could include part or all of the following:
- Production of practical toolkits to prevent and combat sexism in different settings (e.g. the workplace, educational systems, justice systems etc.) based on the content of the Recommendation.
- Production of practical briefs to identify and prevent sexism directed at different audiences (e.g. Victims in general, by-standers, children, young people, teachers etc.) based on the content of the Recommendation.
- Organisation of awareness-raising events on the prevalence and impacts of sexism and ways to combat it.
- Organisation of awareness-raising and/or training events targeted at specific stakeholders (e.g. education professionals, media professionals, justice professionals, young people, ).
- Advocacy activities directed at different sectors / stakeholders to prevent sexism (e.g. media, publishing companies, communication and advertising sector, toy industry, trade unions and professional organisations).
Funding Information
The indicative available budget under this call for proposals is 40,000 Euros (forty thousand Euros). The Council of Europe intends to award one grant of a maximum amount of 40,000 Euros (forty thousand Euros).
General Activities
The grants will fund a project designed to promote the implementation of Council of Europe Recommendation CM/Rec(2019)1 on preventing and Combating Sexism and in particular to:
- Raise awareness about, and help to identify, the phenomena of sexism and sexist behaviour in different areas.
- Identify possible ways forward and create tools as relevant to overcome sexism in different countries/sectors.
- Raise awareness about the Council of Europe Recommendation on Preventing and Combating Sexism.
Target Stakeholders
Projects should target in particular all or some of the following key stakeholders:
- General public
- Young people
- Relevant professionals from the sectors of media and communication, employment, education, justice, sport and culture.
- Decision-makers in the private and public sectors as relevant.
Eligibility Criteria
In order to be eligible for a grant, an applicant must:
- be legally constituted as an umbrella non-governmental organisation in a member state of the Council of Europe;
- be able to carry out the activities described in its project proposal in at least 10 member states of the Council of Europe together with national branches / member organisations;
- have been active for at least 5 years in the field of gender equality and women’s rights;
- have sufficient financial capacity (stable and sufficient sources of funding) to maintain its activity throughout the period for which the grant is awarded and to participate by way of its own resources (including human resources or in-kind contributions);
- have sufficient operational and professional capacity, including staff, to carry out activities described in its project proposal;
- have a bank account.
