Deadline: 31-Jan-23
The Climate & Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) is inviting proposals for Helping the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to improve data and implement its NDC waste target.
This project responds to a request by the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC’s) Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development to enhance implementation of DRC’s updated NDC commitments in the waste sector through improved data collection and understanding of waste sector emissions.
The project would assess the currently available data on waste generation, composition, waste infrastructure, etc. and present it in a report that maps what information is currently being collected and where. In addition, the report presents a roadmap to improve waste data collection for the country at the various levels (i.e., cities, regions, country) and for different contexts (i.e., urban vs. rural). Using the information from cities and regions that have available data estimate the baseline SLCPs emissions for the whole country and provide recommendations for mitigation measures and the related estimation of the potential impact of the implementation of the mitigation measures.
Funding Information
Estimated project cost: USD 80,000
Expected Outcomes
DRC has increased capacity to address methane emissions from the waste sector and improve the collection of waste data for future uses, including GHG inventories from the waste sector.
Outputs
- An assessment of the waste sector including data on:
- municipal waste generation
- waste composition
- collection rates
- waste volume
- waste disposal methods
- methane and other SLCP emissions
- Roadmap on how to improve the collection of basic waste data in cities and in rural areas.
- An assessment of the effectiveness of mitigation options, including quantifying the SLCP emissions mitigation potential and related co-benefits, and provide recommendations on mitigation strategies in the sector.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for consideration, project proposals must meet the following requirements:
- Are complete and submitted before the deadline
- Are submitted by a non-governmental organization (NGO), intergovernmental organization (IGO), or other not-for-profit entity
- Requested funding falls within the indicated cost range and the project duration is less than 24 months
