The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation has launched the Grassroots Funding for Environmental Organizations to strengthen the capacity of organizations dedicated to the conservation of nature and biodiversity.
Objective
- The allocation of core funding, as opposed to project funding, aims to strengthen the capacity of NGOs to act and increase the impact of their nature conservation actions. Through this support, it will be possible for them to develop their activity in a continuous, sustainable and flexible manner.
Specific Objectives
- In pursuit of the general objective of this competition, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation will finance NGOs that have significant experience and the necessary skills to improve the conservation, protection and management status of ecosystems in Portugal, with a view to achieving the following specific objectives:
- Increase in the quality of intervention by NGOs, as well as the scope of their work at local, regional and/or national level;
- Increasing the capacity of NGOs in terms of processes management, communication and dissemination of its work and the impact of its conservation actions;
- Increased visibility and appreciation of NGOs and initiatives that they carry out in favor of biodiversity;
- Promotion of collaborative activities, knowledge transfer and sharing of experiences among selected NGOs;
- Understanding the effectiveness of providing support in the form of core financing for biodiversity protection, restoration and management;
- Increased knowledge about the NGO sector in Portugal.
Funding Information
- The amount of each grant is determined when the application is selected, and never exceeds €50,000 (fifty thousand euros).
Eligibility Criteria
- Non-governmental Organizations that have obtained the status of ONGA, or equivalent according to the National Register, or organizations that work in the area of nature conservation and whose actions are in line with the objectives of this competition, fulfilling the requirements may apply.
- Applicant organizations must meet the following requirements:
- Be based in national territory;
- Be legally constituted and duly registered, in accordance with the law
- Have their situation regularized with Social Security and the Social Security Authority Tax.
- Candidate organizations may not submit more than one application.
- Only applications with implementation and direct impact in Portugal are eligible.
