The Heartefact Fund is accepting grant applications to support an independent, diverse and inclusive cultural sector and its role in shaping and preserving democratic values, inclusive social change and fostering social cohesion through arts and culture.
The purpose of this Call is to support the development and implementation of contemporary artistic projects with rich social and cultural significance, that promote diversity in artistic practices and expressions, address critical social issues, and foster community development.

- Cultural and artistic organizations are well-resourced, capable, strategically sustainable, and financially secure.
- The independent cultural scene has more favorable conditions to operate.
- Citizens, including vulnerable groups, use the independent cultural scene to express their concerns on important social topics.

Funding Information
- The maximum funding available for project implementation is approximately up to CHF 13,000 for a maximum project duration of 12 months.
Expected Results
- Cultural and artistic production with diverse social responsibilities that addresses community challenges and needs available to local communities.
Eligible Costs
- Program activity costs may include:
- Fees and/or compensation for artists/experts engaged in the project;
- Honorarium for moderators and facilitators;
- Costs for purchasing materials/products;
- Rental costs for spaces and equipment necessary for the implementation of the project activities;
- Catering costs (avoid single-use plastics);
- Printing costs, but minimal use is encouraged;
- PR and marketing costs (use of digital tools is encouraged);
- Costs for services (audio and video production services, graphic design services, translation services, etc.);
- Licensing and access fees;
- Digital tools and software;
- Technical costs related to the event (sound, lighting, staging (reusable, modular elements are recommended);
- External consultancy services;
- Local travel costs (transport – low-emission transport is recommended (public transport, bicycles, shared transport), accommodation and meals for individuals involved in the project);
- Other costs necessary for the implementation of the programme activities (reduce energy use).
Ineligible Costs
- Costs that are not necessary for the implementation of the project proposal;
- Costs incurred before or after the project deadline;
- Grants to other organizations;
- Purchase, reconstruction and/or adaptation of immovable property;
- Fines, credits and loans from third parties;
- Leasing expenses;
- VAT;
- Expenses already covered by another active grant under the Culture for Development Project or covered by another Donor.
Eligible Activities
- Activities eligible for funding may include: exhibitions, installations, performances, workshops, lectures and/or similar educational programs, public debates and discussions, audiovisual production, artistic and cultural research, festivals, etc.
Eligibility Criteria
- Cultural and artistic organizations;
- Artistic collectives and initiatives;
- Civil society organizations that carry out cultural and artistic activities, even if this is not their main field of activity;
- Other legal entities active in arts and culture (independent foundations, limited liability companies, and/or entrepreneurs).
Ineligibility Criteria
- Applicants and/or individuals who in any way support or have supported discriminatory, radical, violent, racist or nationalist behaviors and views;
- The applicant who is not registered in accordance with the laws of the Republic of North Macedonia;
- The applicant has not paid his legal obligations regarding contributions, taxes and public fees;
- Political, religious organizations and organizations founded by religious and religious-based organizations;
- Individuals;
- Cultural institutions established by the Republic of North Macedonia or local self-government units;
- Representative offices of foreign organizations registered in the Republic of North Macedonia.
Applications Requirements
- The applicant must be registered as a legal entity in the Central Registry of the Republic of North Macedonia;
- The organization must be registered in accordance with the laws of the Republic of North Macedonia;
- Applicants involved in the implementation of the project must have prior experience in implementing cultural and artistic projects, except for organizations involved as partners in the project which may not have a focus on culture and arts.
