IFRA-Nairobi is currently inviting masters and doctoral students for its Fieldwork Grants (2017-2018) to conduct their research between (2017-2018) in one of the five East African countries covered by the Institute: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi and Rwanda.
The French Institute for Research in Africa exists to promote research in all the disciplines in the humanities and social sciences within East Africa. It has a strong tradition of research in geography, political science, anthropology and history. In addition, it opened up to archaeology recently.

The following topics are IFRA’s priority areas:
- Elections in Kenya (2017): mobilization, devolution, culture & technologies
- Violence & security: police violence, daily security practices
- Informal trade and rural-urban linkages
- Social inequalities, morality and authority
